DIA Days Wrap Up with "Wild About Art" Bike Tour - Bike riders of all ages are invited to bring their bikes to join Mayor Wild in the "Wild About Art" Bike Tour on Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m.  Mayor Wild will lead the tour from City Hall to Tattan Park then to the Historic Village and ending at the Library, where special prizes will be given away to the winner in each age group of the Youth Art Contest.  The Mayor will announce winners at 11:30 a.m. at the Library.  Children are encouraged to wear helmets and must be accompanied by an adult. 

 

Dig This!  Wayne County Parks Present Privy Historian Tony Panepucci - Local privy historian Tony Panepucci returns to lead two archeological digs behind the 1830 Miller's House at Nankin Mills.  Tony will unearth artifacts that were discarded by families who once lived in the house in the interactive demonstrations.  The first dig, which is FREE to attend, is sponsored by the Friends of Nankin Mills and will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 1p.m. - 2 p.m.  The second dig is for homeschooled children and their parents and will run from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 and costs $6/child and $2/adult.  Both digs are at Nankin Mills, located at Hines Dr. and Ann Arbor Tr.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com

 

Fundraisers Planned for Fallen Westland Firefighter Brian Woehlke -

  • On Saturday, June 15, Olga's at Westland Mall will donate 15% of all sales from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 
  • Thursday, June 13 - Sunday, June 16, Vision Lanes Charity Poker, located at 38250 Ford Road, will donate 100% of proceeds from the Krazy Kopz Joes vs. Pros Charity Poker Tournament.  For more information, please call the Poker Room Hotline at (734) 674-4807.
  • Westland Big Boy Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.  Tickets are $10 and are available at Big Boy, located at 6360 Wayne Road.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

  • The Disability Concerns Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17 at the Westland Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.
  • The Parks & Recreation Advisory Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Assessing Conference Room.
  • The Westland City Council Meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of City Hall on Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m.
  • The Westland Housing Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.
  • The Police & Fire Civil Service Commission will meet at 8 a.m. in the Council Conference Room on Wednesday, June 19.
  • The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall on Wednesday, June 19.
  • The Westland City Council will hold a Study Session to discuss SMART on Wednesday, June 19 at 6 p.m. at the Westland Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Road.
  • The Nankin Transit Authority will meet on Thursday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nankin Transit Office, located at 37137 Marquette.
  • The Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) will meet at 9 a.m. at City Hall on Friday, June 21.

Westland Welcomes Sparks Towing - The City of Westland celebrates the grand opening of Sparks Towing, 34043 Ford Road, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 19 at 4 p.m.

 

Find Your Next Hidden Treasure at the Wayne-Westland Community Garage Sale - Visit the Wayne-Westland Community Center, located at 4635 Howe Road, on Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. for the community garage sale. 

 

Enjoy a Great Day with a Great Cause at "Airshow for Autism" - The public is invited to a great day of model flying as the Signal Seekers RC Club hosts its annual charity event, "Airshow for Autism" on Sunday, June 23 from noon - 4 p.m..  The field entrance is located about 1/4 mile south of Michigan Ave. on Henry Ruff.  There will also be concessions available, 50/50 raffles, on-site handicap restroom, computer flight simulator and much more.  Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the Burger School for Students with Autism located in Garden City.  For more information, please visit www.michigansignalseekers.org.

 

 

H�0 Zone Open for Summer - The H�0 Zone Water Spray Park, located at Tattan Park, is now open for the summer season, WEATHER PERMITTING.  Kids are sure to have tons of fun this summer as they play under a large tumble-bucket, shoot water cannons, and play with a sea serpent and even a helicopter that sprays water from the rotors. The Spray Park will be open 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily and is FREE.

 

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Cyclists, Skaters, Runners & Walkers Enjoy Hines Park Traffic Free - Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines Drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 8, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.

 

Get Your Tickets to the Kelly Miller Circus - The Kelly Miller Circus is coming to Attwood Park, located at 33601 Annapolis, on Saturday, August 10 for two shows, one at 2 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are now on sale at the following locations, Wayne Westland Community Center, Mark Chevrolet, Jack Demmer Ford, Henry's Service Center, Wayne-Westland Federal Credit Union and the Westland Municipal Golf Course.
