Design inspired lighting can make the single biggest impact in any room.  In areas such as the dining room, kitchen table or a kitchen island, that lighting is seen at eye level and visually catches attention right away.  It's a must-have to look current.  A builder-grade fan or chandelier usually adds no interest at all.  Of course, removing those fans that are on  a long rod in two story family rooms is another area I attack right away with magnificent oversized lighting...but that's for another time! 

 

For hanging lighting over a table, first consider the size of the table.  The width of the chandelier should be smaller than the width of the table.  Second, the very bottom of the chandelier should be around 27-30' above table or counter surface.
