The Need to Make Skills Work: The Cost of Ontario's Skills Gap
The report, authored by Daniel Munro, of The Conference Board of Canada, examines the economic cost of Ontario's skills gaps, and the specific occupations, skills, and credentials employers and individuals need to thrive in the emerging economy.
* The lower employment rates of these less-skilled workers may cost the Ontario economy as much as $24.3 billion annually in forgone GDP.
* Hamilton's share of this would be roughly $1 billion.
* Health, advanced manufacturing, mining, business services, as well as a range of management and supervisory occupations across sectors, stand out as facing skills shortages at the national level.
