The NGCP is pleased to announce a new Collaborative in Arkansas. The
Arkansas Girls Collaborative Project's convening organization is the
Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Arkansas.We are looking forward to highlighting the programs serving girls in STEM across the state of Arkansas! The NGCP continues to grow our Collaborative network in 40 states, facilitating collaboration between 18,800 organizations serving 15.5 million girls (and 7.9 million boys) by training their program leaders in the philosophy, knowledge, and methods of NGCP.

Survey: High School Students' Perceptions of STEM Careers
NGCP is collaborating with the
Educational Research Center of America,
Destination Imagination, and
National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity on research focused on high school students' perceptions of STEM careers. High school educators may receive a package of student surveys and instructions related to this research effort. Students complete surveys so their perceptions and experiences are included. To receive the surveys, e-mail your name, high school name, and mailing address to
[email protected] with the subject line: STEM Career Survey.

Montana Girls STEM Collaborative: Inspire Tomorrow's Innovators: Add Science and Technology to Your CAP Mentoring
Bozeman, MT; January 21, 2016; 5:30-7:00 PM Mountain
At this free event participants will learn about research regarding the current state of STEM, receive SciGirls Seven: Strategies for Engaging Girls (and Boys) in STEM, learn about STEM resources/events in Bozeman, and hands-on STEM activities that can be shared during the mentoring process.

FabFems are enthusiastic about the science and technology work they do and want to inspire a future generation of FabFems. Search the Role Model Directory to find FabFems in your area. We benefit from role models at all stages of our lives.
Meet Rachel Gitajn, Lead Design Engineer at Quality Bicycle Products. Rachel's path to engineering stemmed from a lifelong passion for art. She was inspired by engineers who could make products that not only look beautiful, but were also functional. This led her to a Product Design and Innovation program which combined a full-fledged mechanical engineering degree program with hands-on design product studios. Four years later she landed her dream job working with the design engineering team at Burton Snowboards. She recently transitioned to her newest dream job - in the bicycle industry. Rachel says, "I get to design, engineer, and develop products I love. And I also work with a dynamic team of dreamers, makers, and designers that share my love for all things bikes and outdoors." Designed by teachers for teachers, this conference highlights the integration of STEM into engineering, computer science, biotechnology, sustainability, and other CTE-based programs. The conference begins with field trips followed by two days of workshops and keynote addresses for teachers to develop their content and pedagogical skills for teaching.

This conference features thought-provoking sessions, and opportunities to network and collaborate with mathematics teacher educators. Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE) National Policy Seminar

The ACTE National Policy Seminar provides participants with advocacy tips and tools to promote their programs at the local, state, and federal levels. Participants will discuss policy issues affecting their programs and have the opportunity to meet with members of Congress to share state-specific success stories and CTE programming needs. FIRST is a non-profit organization that designs accessible, hands-on robotics programs for K-12, which combine team work, competition, and fun to build self-confidence, 21st-century life skills, and open up new career paths. The FIRST season attracts over 400,000 students and over 100,000 mentors, coaches, and volunteers from 50+ countries culminating in an international robotics competition.

FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. (grades K-3): Captures young curiosity by exploring real-world scientific challenges, learning teamwork, and working with motorized LEGO® elements.
FIRST® LEGO® League (grades 4-8): Elementary and middle school-aged students research a real-world engineering challenge, develop a solution, and compete with LEGO-based robots of their own design.
FIRST® TECH CHALLENGE (grades 7-12): Teams of middle and high school-aged students are challenged to design, build, and program a robot to play a floor game against other teams' creations

January is National Mentoring Month
National Mentoring Month focuses national attention on the need for mentors to guide our youth. Research shows girls benefit from relationships with role models and mentors who can provide valuable information about STEM careers.

 Maker Corps 2016 - Apply Now
Maker Corps is a professional development program that combines online training with hands-on practice to create and provide maker education programming within youth-serving organizations. The goal is to support and train partner organizations to establish and develop making programs and to diversify and expand the network and community of maker educators. Application deadline is January 15, 2016.
 NASA Summer Internships for Students with Disabilities
NASA wants to increase the number of students with disabilities pursuing STEM careers by recruiting more students with disabilities into their internship programs. All student interns get paid. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for college and 3.0 for high school. High school students must be at least 16 years old at the time the internship begins. Internships are available at all NASA centers nationwide. Deadline for submitting summer internship applications is March 2, 2016.
NCWIT Tips: 8 Ways to Give Students More Effective Feedback Using a Growth Mindset
Effective feedback gives students information they actually use to increase their learning and improve their performance. The National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) offers this resource to help employ a "growth mindset" that focuses on developing intelligence through effort, practice, and "wise feedback" that spurs additional effort.
ProjectCSGIRLS Competition for Middle School Girls
 The ProjectCSGIRLS competition challenges girls (6-8th grade) to build something using computer science and technology that can help solve an imminent social problem under one of three themes: Global Health, A Safer World, and Intelligent Technology. Finalists will be invited to Washington DC where they will participate in workshops, listen to guest speakers, tour tech companies, participate in an awards ceremony, and showcase their projects to the public. Registration deadline is February 15, 2016.

China, August 2016
Launched in 2009 at the Clinton Global Initiative, G20 galvanizes the world's greatest resource - girls and women and cultivates a new generation of female leaders through entrepreneurship, education and global experiences. G20 focuses on the fact that girls with economic opportunities grow in value in their communities and their communities grow with them. Girls invest in themselves, their families and other girls, creating a ripple effect that can lift entire communities out of poverty. Applicants must be female, between the ages of 18-23 (at the time of Summit). Application deadline is January 30, 2016.
