Simple Gifts Make All the Difference

Dear Friends,

With the Holiday season upon us, one of the most common thoughts that cross our minds: Gifts. Giving gifts. Receiving gifts. Big gifts. Little gifts. Big gifts in little boxes. Gifts, gifts and more gifts! Sometimes, it gets a bit overwhelming.

I must say, I've reflected deeply on your beautiful gifts you've made to the McLaren Foundation this past year. The motivation behind each gift is different, yet similar. Then it came over me that these gifts are truly the simplest and most pure:

They are Gifts of Love
Hope
Faith
Gratitude
Selflessness
Happiness
And even Joy

Just like in the lyrics of Simple Gifts:

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

Your simple gifts have changed the lives of people you'll most likely never meet, and our wish for you is that you experience the purest sense of joy and happiness in knowing you've made this kind of difference.

On behalf of everyone at the McLaren Foundation and McLaren Flint, we wish you and your family Happy Holidays and the very best for the New Year!

Gratefully yours,

Remembering Through Ever Living Tree

After Pam Murray's mother passed away from cancer in September 2013, she wanted to do something to remember her by. Starting an endowment fund through the McLaren Foundation to help other cancer patients was a natural fit.

When Miracles Happen

DaNell Davison didn't have an excruciating headache-the typical symptom of a brain aneurysm-when she sought medical treatment in May 2013.

"I was very tired," she said. "As day wore on I got dizzy and felt sick to my stomach."

DaNell said she had been experiencing a lot of ear infections and assumed she had another one, so she stopped in at an emergent care clinic to have her ear looked at. She figured she would get a prescription for an antibiotic and be on her way. Instead she was sent for an MRI that saved her life.

Stroke: Fighting Back with Innovation

When a stroke hits, time is of the essence. That's why McLaren Health Care wanted to do something innovative to help people everywhere throughout Michigan to get the right treatment and fast.

The McLaren Stroke Network connects all McLaren hospitals throughout the state and provides immediate access to an on-call Interventional Neurologist. The Interventional Neurologist is a highly-trained physician specialist who can determine the best treatment - using medicine to treat a stroke or specialized surgery to remove blood clots in the brain or close off an aneurysm.
