  Prince George's County Planning Board Updates!
Chairman of M-NCPPC and the Prince George's County Planning Board,  Elizabeth M. Hewlett  is prominently featured on the cover of the Department of Parks and Recreation's 2016 "Seniors Making A Difference" calendar.  Chairman Hewlett has blazed many trails as an accomplished attorney and public servant. She is the first African American and the first woman to chair the entire M-NCPPC and the Prince George's County Planning Board. 
She has dedicated her life to making a difference and through her leadership, recently lead the charge in helping the organization to attain its SIXTH National Gold Medal Award

Black History Month 2016!
 
Join us in celebrating Black History Month with a plethora of events throughout the County.  To view this year's Black History Month brochure,  CLICK HERE On almost every day in every part of the County, you'll find an event that celebrates Black History Month.
Highlights include:
Black History Month Exhibition: Narrative in Black Identity
By Antonio McAfee, Tiffany Jones and Stephen Towns
Montpelier Arts Center - now through February 28 - Free
Using historic photos, personal journeys and portraits, these Baltimore-based artists help the viewer understand the importance of history and identity in contemporary times.
Black History Month Exhibition: Re-Invention
By Winston Harris
Montpelier Arts Center - now through February 28 - Free
A combination of printmaking techniques, digital manipulation, hand-colored processes and recycled part artwork produces images that provoke and promote self-awareness and spiritual enlightenment.
What Remains: Archaeological Discoveries of African American Life in Prince George's County
Arts/Harmony Hall Regional Center - now through February 29 - Free
Opening Reception - January 31, noon to 2 p.m.
This exhibit focuses on African American life in Prince George's County from the late 1600s to the early 1900s.
Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad/Eastern Shore Tour
Upper Marlboro Community Center - February 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - $85 Residents, $102 Non-residents
Take a trip to the Eastern Shore to learn about the places, stories and events of Harriet Tubman and how she returned again and again to help lead others to freedom on her Underground Railroad missions.
Black History Gospel Celebration
Hillcrest Heights Community Center - February 6, 6-8 p.m. - Free
Listen to a celebration of gospel music's contributions to black history with performances from local church choirs and dancers.
African American Participation in the War of 1812
Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center - February 11 and 20, 1 p.m. - Free
Learn about the participation and stories of African Americans who fought with the American and British troops during the War of 1812, as well as the opportunities provided to runaway slaves who joined the British.
African American Aviators Tour
College Park Aviation Museum - February 13, 1 p.m. - Free with museum admission ($5 adults, $4 seniors, $2 children)
This special tour will tell you all about some of Prince George's County's lesser known aviation history.

Implements New Guidelines for Online Publishing of Technical Reports
On January 4, 2016, the Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) began publishing all technical staff reports for Prince George's County Planning Board cases on the Department's web site, www.pgplanning.org

Publishing this information online now allows for more timely and easy access to the information and reduces our carbon footprint.

Hard copies of the technical staff reports and monthly development application lists will continue to be available in the Planning Department's Development Review Division, located on the 4th floor of the County Administration Building, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772. Copies of the documents may also be mailed for a small fee upon written request.

Provide Your Feedback on Module 1 for the NEW Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations!   

Prince George's County needs your input TODAY! The creation of a 21st Century Zoning Ordinance for Prince George's County is well on its way. You are invited to GET INVOLVED and provide your feedback on the first step in drafting a NEW Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations for Prince George's County. 
Known as Module 1, this first set of recommendations highlights key changes such as updated names and modern standards for a number of the County's zones, zone district consolidations, new commercial and mixed-use zones that will provide the County with stronger ways to implement community plans, and new use tables that will control what you can do on your property. 
YOUR FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT. Share your thoughts on Module 1 by using an online tool, called OpenComment. It allows you to comment on documents containing the new Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations recommended by Clarion, and to engage in a broad, online community discussion with fellow Prince Georgians from throughout the County. Module 1 is available for feedback on the Prince George's County Planning Department's OpenComment homepage. Visit https://pgplanning.opencomment.us/ to access Module 1 today.

Please provide your feedback on Module 1 by February 29, 2016 to ensure consideration as Clarion continues work on the next module (Module 2: Development Standards), expected in Spring, 2016. Comments on Module 1 will still be accepted after this date but will not be fully evaluated until the comprehensive review draft, expected in Fall, 2016.

Who We Are
The Prince George's County Planning Board, together with the Montgomery County Planning Board, make up The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). The Planning Board's full-time Chairman and four part-time members serve as citizen representatives for their communities in helping to plan, shape, and maintain livable neighborhoods and healthy lifestyles for residents and families in Prince George's County.
