The Arts Council and SPARC are happy to announce that Greg Thomas has been hired as the new SPARC Network Coordinator. Greg brings theatre and networking experience to the job. Over the next three years, he will be working with the SPARC community across Ontario, the Network Steering Committee and the Arts Council-Haliburton Highlands to help realize the vision of a strong, supportive network of rural and remote performing artists and organizations in Ontario.
We would like to thank Elisha Barlow for the ground work she laid in her time with SPARC, knowing that it will be a tremendous help to Greg as he works on this provincial initiative. Our thanks also to Ontario Trillium Foundation and Canadian Heritage for their financial support and project recognition.
Local performing artists can meet Greg at our next Spotlight on the Performing Arts gathering in May 2016. Watch for details coming soon.

The Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands has sent an open letter to Minden Hills Council in response to budget cuts to the Minden Hills Cultural Centre. These cuts to the Cultural Centre not only affect the Centre itself, but the whole arts, culture, and heritage community. We encourage artists and community groups to realize the resource they have in the Minden Hills Cultural Centre and support its use and activities. We hope that the desire of Minden Hills Council is to see the Cultural Centre thrive again. However, this must happen by investing in its facilities and staff, not by making culture the easy cut.

We've changed our name, but not our commitment to providing the best possible art educationexperience for our students. Our new name now reflects the breadth of our expanded programming: art and design studies offered in full-time, part-time, and accelerated formats; available at multiple campus locations and partner institutions.
Summer 2016 registration is open
Make this the year you try your hand at something new! Perhaps something completely different or a new technique to be integrated into your current practice. With 70 new courses and 20 new instructors there are lots of options. For example, potters might consider Celtic Design & Monograms or Japanese Brush Painting; if you paint and draw you might enjoy Printmaking or Travelling with a Sketchbook; Digital Explorations & Collage has great potential for integration in a variety of processes. What does the Arts Council do on members' behalf?
- Compiles information for members about funding, resources, competitions, requests for proposals for artists and arts organizations and businesses.
- Acts a voice for arts, culture and heritage in Haliburton County. The Arts Council has representation on the Haliburton County Tourism Coalition and is involved in provincial and national arts organizations.
- Provides an information service to the public about the services, skills and products provided by members of the Arts Council. The Arts Council responds to requests for information by the public received by phone, mail or e-mail.
- Facilitates business-to-business connections among Arts Council members
- Collaborates with other organizations to promote the arts, culture and heritage.
If you are interested in donating to the Artists in the Schools program, donors receive a charitable tax receipt. Cheques can be made out to the Friends of the Arts in Haliburton Highlands and mailed to PO Box 931, Haliburton ON K0M 1S0. Alternatively, you may donate via PayPal.
