NEW! CLIMB WITH CONFIDENCE
( Ages 9-13 at Camp Ingersoll)
Our Climb with Confidence class will start every week with a team-building exercise and then advance to our ropes course elements. Children will learn how to work as a group to support each other as they conquer challenges and possibly, fears. There will also be opportunities to learn how to belay, put on harness, and tie some important knots. Friday 4:30-5:30pm. Full Member $46/ Program $56/ Non-Member $73


PARENT & ME T-BALL
(Parent/Child class age 3 at Camp Ingersoll) 
Designed for children and parents to spend quality time together learning America's past time. Parent's are expected to help introduce skills. Everyone plays and all participants receive a t-shirt. Saturday 9:00-9:45am. Full Member $46/ Program $56/ Non-Memeber $73
 
ARCHERY 
(Ages 7-10 at Camp Ingersoll)
Archery is a fun and exciting way to teach skills and the YMCA values. Learn about the different parts of a bow and arrow and how to take care of them while participating in games and activities designed to be fun and engaging. Saturday. 11:00-11:45am Full Member $46/ Program $56/ Non-Member $73

FISHING FUN 
(Ages 10-14 or any age with adult supervision) 
Experience the joys of fishing at Camp Ingersol. We will learn about knot tying, different types of ifsh, casting and some ecology. Special attention will be spent on responsible and respectful fishing practices. All Children will be automatically entered into our Family Fishing Derby in May at Camp Ingersoll. Saturday 12:00-12:45pm. Full Member $46/ Program $56/ Non-Member $73

RACE FOR CHASE
(Age 6-12 at Camp Ingersolll)
We are still accepting applications for our free, 6 week, ½ day triathlon training program through the CMAK foundation. This is our 2nd year running the program and we are accepting up to 40 participants. Busing is available to camp through our camp Ingersoll busses and back to the YMCA midday. Outdoor Center Membership:
Our Outdoor Center (OC) Membership at YMCA Camp Ingersoll is even more of a value this year! In addition to weekend swimming and boating, we have added Wednesday and Friday night times as well as Camp Fire Fridays on the last Friday of June, July, and August. There are also discounts on our Adult Aquatics class and Triathlon Club, held at camp, with an OC membership. Our early bird discount ends May 1st so register now! S.T.O.R.M.Y Nights for Students Grades 6-8
Our newest program for students in grades 6-8, S.T.O.R.M.Y Night. The 2nd and 4th Friday of the month from  7pm-9:30pm and offers a variety of activities to do with friends.

Healthy Kids' Day
For years, YMCA's Healthy Kids Day® has celebrated kids' health and continues to teach healthy habits for kids and families, encourage active play, and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity. This year will be the Y's 25th year celebrating this national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families.
 
We are hoping to gather at least 100 families at Camp Ingersoll in Portland, CT to take part in the celebration for the first time on Saturday, April 30th! We'll have a number of events and activities including: Archery, martial arts, fishing, crafts, much more! You can read more about the fun day here. This is a free event and we look forward to seeing you all there. 



11th Annual Mayor's Ball Honoree
"As mayor I have had an opportunity to watch the Community Renewal Team and the Middlesex YMCA help the lives of the people in our community in ways both large and small."

We are excited to be selected as an honoree for the 11th Annual Mayor's Ball, Saturday April 16th at 7:00pm at the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown. 

This event requires formal attire and will be catered by the Aqua Turf with music provided by Prelude Band. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased in support of the Middlesex Y, as well as the other honorees through the mayor's office or Jade Stoltz, [email protected]

Andre's Allstars Basketball Clinic
This free basketball clinic will take place at the YMCA on 
April 1st and 15th from 7:00- 9:30pm

Local coaches and teen volunteers will help to run drills, games, and raffles for up to 30 middle school participants. Raffle tickets will be given for registering early, participation, and skill competitions. Raffle prizes include: i-tunes gift cards, Dunkin Donut gift cards, and an Andre Drummond Signed Basketball. All skill levels are welcome.

Staff Spotlight

One of our newest staff members comes to us with  a vast amount of experience in personal training as well as fitness center management. Growing up in Portland, he spent time playing basketball here at the Y on a regular basis and is thrilled to be back. This fitness enthusiast is hoping to re-enter the profession on a full time basis in the near future. This month's staff spotlight is shining on Craig Chivers.

Where you can find me: Fitness Center
Background: Spent 10 years as a Hospital Corpsman at the US Naval Hospital, Balboa Medical Center in San Diego.  Worked as a Exercise Fitness Therapist for naval athletes after moving to Rochester in 1998.
Favorite Past Time: Sports! Played soccer, baseball  and basketball in high school. Named Sports Athlete of the Year for his naval base, Kings Bay, GA in 1993. 
Fun Fact: I've backpacked through the Grand Canyon and climbed Camelback Mountain in Arizona (elevation of 2,706 feet!).
Togetherhood Week a Success!
We spent March helping people get to know our Y and asking them to be a part of creating a better us. We're happy to share that together we raised $5,213 - more than double last year's total!
 
Thank you to all our members who helped make TOGETHERHOOD WEEK such a great success. Together we can do such great things, thank you for helping to make it happen.

Ooo, Barracuda!

The Northern Middlesex YMCA Barracudas Swim Team concluded their season this month with 23 swimmers competing at the New England YMCA Swim Championships at MIT in Cambridge MA. Congratulations to all who qualified for this very competitive meet.

The team has a short break until the Barracudas Spring/Summer Team starts up on  May 2 . Anyone interested in learning more about joining the team please contact Head Swim Coach Bill Evison at  [email protected]
