April 2016

Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.

Co-C oordinators' Corner

Rachel Greenstein & Sue Burgess
The March 19 Getting to Know You Tea gave more than 20 TTN members, new and not-so-new, a chance to mingle and chat and "get to know " one another a little better. Many of us enjoyed one too many pieces of the delicious desserts but, in the name of fun, what 's another piece of chocolate cake! A warm and welcoming ladies '  afternoon was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Jean Palmer for hosting, Judy Donohue for providing the outstanding refreshments and her membership committee for making us all feel welcome.

Our monthly meeting - Pot Luck With A Purpose - certainly did achieve its purpose and more! Along with lots of good food (and more great desserts!), our meeting resulted in some terrific new ideas: we 'll soon be introducing new Special Interest Groups and multiple activities. A new book group is about to launch and we already have a half dozen women interested in the next Transition Peer Group. A half dozen new members and guests joined almost 20 other members and, thanks to everyone 's energy and enthusiasm, we all have a lot to look forward to! (see additional articles for more details).

AND, keep your eye out for an email introducing the events and providing the opportunity to sign up for as many new activities as you'd like!

Coming soon: A Mini-Transition Workshop; Presentations on Financial Planning and Down-sizing! Dates To Be Announced!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure to RSVP to any event you plan to attend! It's a great help to event organizers. Thank you!

Monthly Meeting

Monday, April 25th from 5:45-7:30p

Program:
A NIA MOVEMENTS SAMPLER

NIA is an expressive body-mind-spirit movement program that offers an artistic and innovative approach to fitness and healing.  Blending aspects of Martial Arts, Dance Arts, and Healing Arts, NIA provides a variety of movement dynamics to create an experience that involves the whole body, as well as your spirit.  Plus, it's really fun!

NIA is practiced barefoot, is non-impact and adaptable to individual needs and abilities.  Each workout is based on 52 simple steps designed to provide a full body workout.

Mark Frossard and Barbara Miller will teach and take us through some of the movements with musical rhythms.  So, come and step in and dance.

Bring your dance shoes, yoga socks or Skeletoes if you're not used to dancing barefoot.

A Purposeful March Meeting!

The TTN monthly meeting on March 28th -
"Potluck with a Purpose"- featured a showcase of  committee and interest groups.

Using a "speed dating" approach, members circulated between tables that had a representative from the group available for questions. This was a good format for both new and current members, who had a chance to explore a variety of groups and sign up for further information.

Interest groups included peer groups, a soap making workshop, and a new book group. They were supplemented by tables representing standing committees ( membership, social, communications, and logistics). Using a "speed dating" approach, members circulated between tables that had a representative from the group available for questions.

Before the sessions began, one member offered a creative list of potential one day outings which generated a lot of interest and turned into a new interest group.

Getting to Know Each Other at a Special Tea!

On April 19th, more than twenty TTN members enjoyed each others' company and a sumptuous spread provided by our own Judy Donohue at the lovely home of Jean Palmer. The tea is a traditional event during which we welcome our newest members!

Host Your Own TTN Events!

The Social Committee continues to arrange many events, including coffees, happy hours, and special trips to connect our members beyond the monthly meetings.

Have suggestions?  Hiking, art, theater? Help us set up social events using MeetUp as a communications tool. Contact Linda McEnroe - [email protected] to share your ideas - or to join the Social Committee.

SANTA FE PLAYHOUSE
THE CHILDREN'S HOUR
by Lillian Helman
Sunday, April 24th  2pm
142 E DeVargas St

Lillian Hellman's dramatic masterpiece The Children's Hour is a story of rumors, scandal, and human nature. When a young girl makes up a lie to get what she wants, the resulting scandal threatens to destroy the lives of her school teachers.

Sherry Engstrom, the actor playing the part of Lily Mortar in The Children's Hour, has agreed to meet with us in the theatre after her performance to discuss the play, answer our questions and share her feelings about playing an "older woman." She asked if we - as  women over 50 - would share our thoughts and reactions to the play.
This meeting will be a special treat just for our group!
