F
un Galore!

Celebrate spring in a charming historic setting with quality arts & crafts, live entertainment sponsored by Tri-County Technical College, kids art & music activities and great food.  These things and more await you in Downtown Pendleton, SC.  Spring Jubilee, an award winning two-day Arts & Crafts festival, is the oldest in the Upstate and the place to kick off spring!

Some of the finest Artisans from as close as Pendleton and as far away as Kansas, New Jersey and Florida have been selected to display their quality handmade creations of pottery, painting, wood work, photography, metal work, basketry, jewelry, leather, wearables and glasswork.  Shop along the Village Green and main streets of Historic Pendleton while music plays, kids are engaged, and the Highland Singers & Dancers from Stornoway, Scotland entertain.  Bands including The Flashbacks, and others playing bluegrass and blues, will entertain thousands from the United Community Bank stage, and be sure to take a carriage ride during your visit.

Arrive on Saturday at 9:45am and join the Opening Ceremony Bagpipe procession beginning at Hunter Store Visitor's Center.  Whether this is your 39th year attending the festival or your first, we look forward to your visit on Saturday, April 2nd, 10 - 6pm and Sunday, April 3rd, noon-5.  You'll be glad you came!

LAKE HARTWELL COUNTRY
 Crown of the Carolinas

On the 50th anniversary of its founding, Pendleton District Commission has announced its new name!   The Regional Tourism Office, which promotes Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties as a destination, will be doing business as "Lake Hartwell Country, Crown of the Carolinas," with the goal of increasing the organization's ability to reach and draw more visitors to this area they have served since March 11, 1966.

"The name Pendleton District was derived from the name given to the area in 1790. While the name served well for historical purposes, the difficulty in getting visitors and travel writers to grasp the actual area we promote was consuming much of our face-time with them.  We needed to spend that time highlighting the reasons they should visit or write about us, so a 21st Century name was in order," states Vicki Fletcher, Executive Director of the state's oldest Tourism Region.

"In an area rich in unique ecosystems, outdoor adventure opportunities, agri-tourism sites, quality museums, and charming small towns, having the ability to quickly connect with our prospective visitor is key to our success.  We aren't Disney or Graceland.  We're not the Big Apple or the Big Easy.  What we have to offer visitors is a very different experience," says Fletche
r.

" To find our new name, we held public input sessions in each of our three counties gathering as much information from constituents as possible.  Water was the single recurring theme.  The one feature that touches every county we serve is Lake Hartwell, and it is a huge economic engine for the region.  So, the name "Lak e Hartwell Country" rose to the top of the list."

The region is working with songwriter, Bobby Holliday, whose songs, which are deeply rooted in the area, have names like Oconee Bell and Peaceful Eastatoe.  The name of Holliday's DVD, Crown of the Carolinas, has become the tagline for the region, and the website www.crownofthecarolinas.org is the new homepage for the Regional Tourism Office.

"We are still located in Hunter's Store in downtown Pendleton," comments Fletcher.  'And, we're still sending people out to see sites across the three counties, preserving history and sharing it in our Local History Archives & Research Library, running the State's Century Farm Program and operating the State's Agricultural Museum.  We are simply doing all this under a new name."

Lake Hartwell Country's next big events are the 39th Historic Pendleton Spring Jubilee and the 24th Jubilee Joy Ride, which take place April 2-3, 2016.

At Lake Hartwell Country Brand Launch a Silent Auction was held to benefit Spring Jubilee.
