Exemption from Statewide Standardized Testing
|
|
House Bill 2655 went into effect on Jan. 1, and established a Student Assessment Bill of Rights permitting parents or adult students to annually opt out of Oregon's statewide summative tests. Students who opt out of testing will be provided supervised study time while classmates are taking the tests. Juniors will still need to meet the Essential Skills graduation requirement using another approved assessment option. Click here for more information, including the opt-out form.

Thirty Classroom Projects Funded by Chevron's Fuel Your School Program
|
|
Gas consumers in Multnomah and Washington counties generated $350,000 in October for Chevron's annual Fuel Your School program. This money helped fund 402 classroom projects at 160 public schools, including 30 projects in HSD.

Licensed Staff Voluntary Transfer Process

On Friday, Dec.18, all licensed staff members were e-mailed information about the opportunity to request consideration for a voluntary transfer for the 2016-17 school year. This e-mail also contained information on how to request a leave of absence or an increase or decrease in FTE. If you did not receive the e-mail or have questions, please contact Kristina Gantt in Human Resources. All transfer requests are due by Feb. 1.

ACPE Technology Scholarships
|

|
|
The Association of Computer Professionals in Education (ACPE) has allocated up to $10,000 for scholarships of up to $2,500 each for students in Oregon and Washington who have been actively involved in the use of technology during their high school careers and are planning to pursue studies in a technology-related field. Zumba and Yoga at Century High School
|
|
As part of a schoolwide wellness initiative, Century High School is offering Zumba and yoga classes to all interested students, staff, parents and community members. Zumba classes are held on Tuesdays and yoga on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the commons. Classes are free, but a $1 donation per adult Zumba participant is requested to help make the program self-sustaining. Click here to see the flyer.

Additional Internship Opportunities at Bag & Baggage Productions
|
|
|
Two additional internships have been announced for Bag & Baggage Productions' performance of "Moby Dick, Rehearsed" in March 2016: Graphic and Projection Design; and Social Media Marketing. Deadlines for submitting a letter of interest to stage manager Emily Trimble are Jan. 20 and Feb. 5, respectively. Letters of interest for backstage/crew positions are also being accepted through Jan. 20.
