Survey Says.....

Many of you participated in our Survey of Bellingham Neighborhoods and we're happy to report the results to you! (click here to view the summary report) We'll use these survey results to help direct our future work, so we appreciate all the great feedback we got. Spoiler alert!: The primary take-away for us is the need to outreach to more Bellingham citizens and to let them know about the good work of the CCC.

Some of you may have seen the article in Whatcom Talk magazine about Neighborhood Police Officer Eric Osterkamp. (The article highlighted his collaboration with the CCC.) In addition to all of the great work that we're already doing together, we're also collaborating with Eric and other City of Bellingham staff to launch a "Town-Gown Initiative". As part of this effort, the CCC will work even closer with City staff to assist with education of students on topics including civic engagement, being a good neighbor, and being respectful of neighborhoods. We're happy to have been asked to participate with the City on this great initiative. (See the full draft of the initiative here.)

In December we launched our first-ever email outreach to all WWU students living off campus! In the email we encouraged them to visit the Off Campus Living website frequently, to follow the CCC Facebook page, and we also encouraged students to update their address in the WWU system whenever they move (so we can have accurate address info on all students). In addition, we reminded students to be aware of preventing mold in their off campus housing and sent them to this info graphic from the Off Campus Living website:

In addition to our ongoing work educating students, we continue to be actively engaged on the " Tenant Waste Task Force" and we're looking forward to several new programs/projects that we hope will effectively address the complex problem of the improper disposal of unwanted furniture items and other tenant-related litter in neighborhoods. We'll keep you updated on this exciting effort as it progresses.

We also continue to use our Facebook Page to push info to students about various off campus life topics, including Rental Registration, activities happening in Bellingham, and home maintenance tips. If you don't already follow us on Facebook, we encourage you to do so!

As you can see, we are working really hard to work collaboratively with other stakeholders to improve the overall quality of life for students and other residents of Bellingham. If you have questions about any of these projects or you'd like to talk with me about the CCC in general, please email me at (
[email protected]  ) .

As always, feel free to provide me with feedback, ideas and input - your perspective is a very important part of the Coalition!

Thanks!
