Edition 3
Sept 2015
Dear colleagues
We are now approaching the six month anniversary of our GP liaison service and are proud to say we have delivered three newsletters, participated in eight engagement events, have received nearly 80 GP queries and have sent over 400 tweets on twitter. This is a great team effort and I would like to extend my thanks for your support in helping to make these changes possible to improve patient care.
Best wishes
Katherine McNaughton, GP Liaison Manager

emergencyREVOLUTIONISING EMERGENCY CARE
We've been selected as one of eight Vanguards in the country and the only one in London, which will streamline urgent and emergency care for patients. It expands our partnership working within the community, currently evident through our Urgent Care Centre. The aim is to provide three choices for patients, supported by a digital system referred to as Click, Call or Come in. This includes:
  • Online support and information for self-care
  • Customer service centre for advice or reassurance from a clinician
  • Attend hospital in an emergency
Look out for more information coming soon.
hotPAEDIATRIC HOT CLINIC
To help us improve the service we offer please ensure that you have the following details to hand for the Consultant Paediatricians when you call for advice and guidance. This information will help us to have an electronic record and a full audit trail:

 1.  Child Name
 2.  DOB
 3.  NHS NO (this is ESSENTIAL)
 4.  Address
 5.  GP Practice

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.
electiveKING GEORGE ELECTIVE CARE CENTRE
We're delighted we've been selected as the preferred bidder to run the treatment centre at King George Hospital.

Our vision is to make King George a centre of excellence for planned care and we will have the opportunity to provide care to an additional 15,000 patients each year where they will be able to have routine, low-risk surgery at the facility without needing an overnight stay in Hospital. At the moment the current service provider, Care UK, have launched an appeal and we're awaiting the outcome so look out for more information soon.
screeningBOWEL CANCER SCREENING STAND ALONE CENTRE
As of Monday 16 November 2015 the Bowel Cancer Screening service at Queen's Hospital will be a stand alone centre.  The service has been managed for the past five years by Homerton University Hospital for patients in Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge. The BHRUT Bowel Cancer Screening service will increase to accommodate the eligible patients from Redbridge who will be invited to Queen's Hospital for their screening appointments in future.  We're also making arrangements with Homerton University Hospital for patients who would prefer to be seen at Whipps Cross Hospital.

If you have any queries please email Lesley Polak, BCS Programme Manager, via  lesley.polak@nhs.net.
