Please join us on Saturday, January 23 at 8:00 PM for our Sisterhood Torah Fund Concert with the Naomi Less Band where we will honor our Horty T. Gendzier Woman of Achievement award recipient, Lara Werwa for her many years of service to Center Sisterhood. In addition Sisterhood will present Edie Jordan with a Guardian Torah Pin for her years of service at the Center. Tickets are $18 for an individual or $36 for a family and can be purchased online by visiting the Sisterhood Website HERE .
Dov Waxman to discuss his new book, Trouble in the Tribe at the Center. 
Dov Waxman, professor of political science, international affairs and Israel studies at Northeastern University,  will discuss his new book Trouble in The Tribe: The American Jewish Conflict over Israel on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 7:30 PM. This program is free and open to the public.
This event is sponsored by the University of Florida Center for Jewish Studies, the Israel Affairs Committee of the Jacksonville Jewish Center, and the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville, with additional support from the Levin and Shorstein families.

This Shabbat we are joined by Naomi Less as our Artist-In-Residence for our Shabbat Shira Weekend of Song. 

Naomi Less is an internationally renown, multi-skilled talent- a musician, facilitator and educator- who both performs and creates tailor-made trainings and educational experiences for all ages.  
 
Through her Jewish Chicks Rock project, she aims to "empower younger girls" as a role model and through a proactive program. She considers herself a Jewish feminist, grateful for the progress made by Jewish women before her. A founding company member of Storahtelling, Less will bring her musical and educational talents to classroom, congregation and concert over the course of this inspirational weekend.

Children's Shabbat Programming: 
  • Gan Shabbat; a family friendly service for preschool-aged children and their parents is held in the Levin Indoor Playroom in the DuBow Preschool at 11:00 AM
  • Camp Shabbat; kids in kindergarten through fifth grades will get to lead their own abbreviated Shabbat service. Following their service they will be up on their feet running around as they learn about that week's Torah portion, an upcoming holiday, or another Judaic topic in a fun and interactive manner in the Bessie Setzer Frisch Activities Center at 10:30 AM.
  • Complimentary Shabbat Morning Babysitting is available for children ages 1 - 5 in the DuBow Preschool from  9:15 AM - 12:15 PM.

Our Condolences: 
We are saddened by the passing of Zelda Cohen, mother of our member Norman (Susan) Cohen, on Sunday evening, January 17. We extend our condolences to Norman & Susan; to their children, Jonathon (Pam) Cohen, Meagan (Stephen) Jones, and Janna Cohen; and to their 4 grandchildren; as well as to Zelda's sister, Sydelle (Morty) Engel , and brother, Ralph Chernin.

May the Holy One comfort the members of the Cohen family among all the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
