Network Spotlight:  Peer Group Feature
Audrey Meyer, Financial Director at Foundation 2, Inc.
What peer group/s do you attend?   CFO Peer Group (which sometimes turns into a human resource/benefit group)
Why do you attend peer group?
I enjoy attending the group because they have multiple training sessions and I can glean insight from others in dealing with similar issues and situations.  We meet to discuss common situations that our agencies are dealing with, share ideas and what resources are being used.
How is the peer group valuable to you?
I appreciate being able to discuss topics that are specific to accounting, benefits or human resource concerns.  These are not always topics everyone appreciates or understands.
If someone was interested in peer group, what would you say to encourage them to attend?
It's always good information; even if it's not something you are dealing with specifically at that time, the situation may come up in the future.  And it's always good to get out of the office periodically, to take a deep breath and clear your mind so you can go back to the office refreshed.  It would be great if more people would join in!
Find more information about Foundation 2 at www.foundation2.org.
Email Carrie Walker f or more information about joining a peer group.

Effective financial reporting is about more than making sure the numbers add up. It requires that financial information be communicated in a way that is meaningful and understandable to the audience. While board members and nonprofit leaders bring a variety of talents to an organization, they may not have extensive experience with financial and accounting matters. This roundtable is a learning opportunity for individuals responsible for assisting people who may not have a financial background - board members, committees, program directors, and others - in understanding nonprofit and government financial reports and their underlying standards.
Presenter: Connie Lira, Senior Accountant, Nonprofit
Cost: Free, lunch provided for those who RSVP by April 19.

It's a double dose of training!
Understanding and Engaging the Next Generation of Donors, Volunteers and Employees:  Each generation assumes there's "one right way" - their own! This session will open your eyes to the formative events that have shaped the characteristics and behaviors of each generation. Instead of waiting for the next generation to "see it your way," you will learn practical ways to leverage these differences within your organization - with donors, volunteers and employees.
Board Structure & Responsibilities:  Discuss the basic roles and fiduciary duties of effective board members. Group dynamics can play a big part in the success and engagement of your board, so we will also discuss the importance of relationships between board members and management, and the impact of board composition, size and structure.
Cost: none, but registration is required. Space is limited; please designate up to three participants per organization.
