HEALTHCARE AND COMMUNITY DESIGN :
Creative team effort brings a state-of-the-art healthcare facility to an underserved North Philadelphia neighborhood.

Brawer & Hauptman's Stephen Klein Wellness Center was featured in a panel discussion at the 13th annual Design on the Delaware conference in Philadelphia. Project HOME's Vice President of Healthcare Services, Monica McCurdy, was a presenter whose topic, "The Intersection of Healthcare and Community Design", used the Wellness Center as an outstanding example of how hospitals, community development organizations, design professionals and members of the community can work together to have a significant positive impact on the health outcomes of a traditionally underserved urban neighborhood.

The 30,000 square foot center contains 15 primary care exam rooms, 9 dental operatories, behavioral health facilities, special care facilities for the homeless, a pharmacy, a multi-purpose space for nutrition and cooking classes and a fully equipped YMCA.  Neighborhood residents are encouraged to spend time in the center's welcoming Commons and to take advantage of the many health and wellness programs that are offered.

"Project HOME loved working with Brawer & Hauptman on the Stephen Klein Wellness Center." noted Ms. McCurdy.  "They guided us through a design process that took into account the needs of our patients and staff, and delivered a beautiful state of the art facility that is itself a source of healing for our patients -- from the tremendous amount of natural light throughout the building, to the choice of building materials, to the interior design. Our patients and staff love this new healthcare home in North Philly!"
