Focus on Urgent Rx
Can you imagine having to decide between buying food or purchasing medicine?

The Urgent Rx Program is a partnership between UWTC, the Human Service Coalition, Cayuga Medical Center, The Ithaca Free Clinic, Wegmans Ithaca, Kinney Drugs Inc, CVS, and the Green Street Pharmacy that helps protect people from having to make that choice. Qualifying patients receive a voucher from local medical providers which they can then take to a participating pharmacy and fill at no cost.

The Urgent Rx Program is not just a onetime fill. Staff with the Human Service Coalition follow-up with the patients and help them sign up for insurance.

"When someone comes in with a voucher it doesn't end with them picking up the prescription. It starts with that and hopefully ends with the patient receiving insurance coverage."
~Nicole Pagano, Owner of the Green Street Pharmacy

As we work towards the close of the 2015/16 Community Campaign we are focusing on boosting our ability to fund this essential program.

We hope you will support us and we are grateful to be able to provide a dollar for dollar matching gift opportunity of up to $20,000.  The Program averages $53 per participant, s o for every 106 dollar gift we receive we can help four people secure the medicine they need to recover their health.

For more information about the program please visit our website

T o support this vital initiative you can check the Urgent Rx box under Special Initiatives on your UWTC pledge card, call our office at (607) 272-6286, or donate online  here!

We all benefit when a child succeeds, when families are stable, and when people lead healthy lives.

2nd Annual WHCU 870 News Talk
Wine & Dine Radiothon and Online
After-Auction raises over $5,000
We are happy to have teamed up with Cayuga Radio Group again this year for the 2nd annual Wine&Dine Radiothon. This 12-hour long Radio marathon hosted by Lee Rayburn on WHCU 95.9fm/870am brought together local restaurants, wineries, breweries, and non-profit leaders on air while discussing how we can all play a bigger part in helping our community.
The main focus of the event was a live auction featuring hourly packages of wonderful food from local restaurants and eateries, paired up with a case of wine and/or beer from wineries or breweries from the Finger Lakes region. Following the live auction, there was an online auction that raised more funds.

Thanks to the efforts of everyone at WHCU, our volunteers, and these wonderful businesses, we have raised over $5,000 to help address hunger in the Tompkins County community. Thank you!
Spotlight on Volunteering: Dairy One
This year  Dairy One reached out to us at United Way of Tompkins County looking for a meaningful way to contribute their time and energy in giving back to the community.

We connected them with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and on February 17th 34 employees from Dairy One met at Boynton Middle school to volunteer by packing 768 bags of food  for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier's Backpack Program. This program provides food for children at risk of hunger.

Great Job Dairy One! If you or your organization are looking for meaningful ways to contribute to your community, check out our GetConnected volunteer site here or contact us for more ways to get involved!
