New Tool for Your Public Safety Website
 
The National Center for Campus Public Safety (NCCPS) is excited to offer a new tool to help campus safety and law enforcement officers; emergency management officials; and other professionals committed to campus safety easily find and connect to our website. 

We have created web banners, also known as badges, that can be placed on your website and used as a direct link to the NCCPS website. This allows your community to access our resources with one click. With the badge, there is no need to remember a URL or find a place on your website to list our link. Eight versions are available in different sizes, colors, and formats (gif and jpg). Simply copy the code associated with your chosen website banner and add it to your website.

COPS Office Grant Opportunity
 
The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) recently announced an upcoming grant opportunity that directly impacts those working in school-based policing. The COPS Office will soon begin accepting applications for their FY2016 COPS Hiring Program (CHP). In FY2015, CHP awarded more than $113M to 209 agencies across the country that resulted in 915 law enforcement officer hires (includes new hires and rehires - both already laid off and future scheduled layoffs). This year, up to $137M is available in federal funding.
 
COPS Office Director Ronald L. Davis explains that this year's CHP "has an overarching emphasis on implementing the recommendations of the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing." The May 2015  Final Report (PDF) from the Task Force included recommendations on building public trust and legitimacy, promoting effective crime reduction, and developing strategies that reinforce community engagement in managing public safety.
 
This grant cycle, applicants will be able to choose from seven broad areas of policing to be the focus of any officers awarded. However, the COPS Office has noted that priority consideration will be given to applicants who "select the 'Building Trust,' 'Homeland Security,' or 'School-Based Policing' problem/focus areas."
