You know it's important to keep stats, and you probably already do. Now your shelter or rescue can receive $1,000 just by signing up to share the data.  Maddie's Fund is giving $1,000 to shelters and rescue organizations who sign up for Shelter Animals Count
database project between now and April 30, 2016!

Tax-payers: Have you completed your 2015 Michigan income tax return yet? If not, be sure to include a donation to the Animal Welfare Fund by using  Form 4642  available  here.

 

The Michigan Companion Animal Welfare Fund was established as a tax check-off to support animal shelters statewide. Registered shelters may apply for grants from the fund. Eligible projects include spay/neuter programs, registration fees and speakers for anti-cruelty training conferences, and programs that provide for the care and protection of animals pursuant to state animal anticruelty laws.

The following shelters received grants:

Michigan Pet Fund Alliance welcomes  Michigan Pit Bull Education Project  and Great Lakes Boxer Rescue   as new  Certified Rescue  organizations.  

Michigan Pit Bull Education Project is " dedicated to helping families keep their family members by educating landlords, apartments, and insurance companies. We support and promote spay and neutering programs, educating the youth about dog-fighting, fight breed specific legislation, help lower the amount of pit bulls that enter the shelters by helping families locate homes that allow pit bulls, help communities end the practice of 24/7 chaining."

The mission of Great Lakes Boxer Rescue is: 

~ to rescue and rehabilitate the boxers that others have failed, the unwanted, t he unloved and the abandoned;

~to carefully choose their forever homes based on the best match between  the dogs and their new families;

~ to provide complete medical care, including spay/neuter, heartworm testing,  vaccines, parasite removal;

~to do our best to know the temperament of each dog in order to know  the best placement option;

~to offer support following adoption;

~to educate the public about the Boxer breed and the importance of spay/neutering;

~to promote the important of positive reinforcement training;

~to always care, but to recognize our limitations
