Shakori Hills Concert Series to Debut on the North Carolina Channel April 2!

New Live Music Series Kicks Off Season with Donna the Buffalo

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC - The recently launched North Carolina Channel will debut a new live music program,
Shakori Hills Concert Series , on Saturday, April 2, at 8 PM. This original production offers viewers a front row seat to a wide variety of top bands, recorded live at the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance in Silk Hope, NC.

" We wanted to create a show that captures the feel of a live festival, but at the same time delivers high quality sound, which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own living room," says producer and director Mike O'Connell. "We also wanted to cover the spectrum, as far as genres, and Shakori Hills is a great place to do that."

The mastering of the Shakori Hills Concert Series soundtrack for the premiere episode of the series was completed by studio legend Rob Fabroni, whose credits include work with Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. The process also involved Fabroni's use of his RealFeel software, which some call a "cure' for digital sound as it delivers the warm feel of an analog recording.

Kicking off the series, Saturday, April 2, is Donna the Buffalo, a 20-year veteran of the music festival circuit and part of the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival since its inception a decade ago. The band features Jeb Puryear on vocals and guitar, Tara Nevins on vocals, fiddle and accordion, David McCracken on organ, Kyle Spark on bass and Mark Raudabaugh on drums.

Every Saturday, at 8 PM, the series features complete concerts from such talented bands as bluegrass legends Hot Rize (April 9), indie dance band Rubblebucket (April 16), African and world music from Kinobe and The Wamu Spirit (April 23), roots rock with the Black Lillies (April 30), high energy cumbia and salsa rhythms by Lanzallamas (May 7), future jazz and afrobeat from Big Mean Sound Machine (May 14), hypnotic soul and electronic vibes from Elastic Bond (May 21) and Americana folk rock from Driftwood (May 28).

"We are excited about this partnership with the North Carolina Channel and appreciate its support of local arts," says Sara Waters, co-coordinator, Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance. "It's a great way to share these bands with the world."

The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance is a bi-annual event that features more than 50 bands and performers on multiple outdoor stages. In addition to music performers, the festival also features local crafts, children's activities, healing arts practitioners and dancing and music workshops.
