Thriving Instead of Surviving
"The Lord is my Shepherd; there is nothing I lack. ... He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for his name's sake." Psalm 23:1, 3 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Hi, I'm Michelle.  I am truly a living testimony to the above scripture. One year ago today, I became a student of Necole's Place (NP). I was still very much lost, confused, hurt, and having the biggest party of my life--a pity party, "Holmes, table of one!" I could hear my inner self saying I was a struggling single mother, committing sins just to survive. I was jobless, uneducated, and becoming more depressed day by day. Truly, the only thing that kept me going was my son, LaMychael, aka, Sunny. He's my heart, my meaning, my reason for living. So my first attempt at getting out of my funk was going back to school.

Although I had many dreams and aspirations, I always got knocked down, which I now know was the devil using my fleshly desires against me...  Read more
Building for Life Update: Ceiling Tile Removal Party
As you know, in January our prayer was to raise the money to renovate and move into 701 W. Muhammad Ali i n early 2017. When one general contractor we interviewed for the renovation work walked through the building, he noticed immediately how ceiling heights differed and were unconventional. He suggested that we have a "ceiling tile removal party" to expose the mysteries of what was above our heads.

Enter Highview Baptist Church's Hope Forward Team, lead by Terry Kirkland under the supervision of Missions Pastor Willian Brown, and Business Administrator Chip Evans (who serves on our board). They recruited about 45 Highview members from across their campuses to help us remove ceiling tiles at the new building. It created one dusty mess--but it will be an invaluable aid to any contractor analyzing the building's design, mechanicals, and infrastructure for bidding out renovation!

We are grateful to these volunteers--of all ages--including old friends and new faces who helped make a difference in our effort to not just move but grow the ministry. Thanks for your help with our "Building for Life" effort, Highvew Hope Forward!
More GED Success
   math-teaching-man.jpg
There are so many exciting things going on at Necole's Place in the GED classroom! We had our first graduate this year in February. Raesha not only passed all four sections of her GED, but also achieved college credit on several of her subjects. She is in the process of applying for college and is on 'pre-resident status' at Family Scholar House. We also have two other students who need to complete only one test each and they will join the ranks of our graduates! They are working diligently to complete their goals this year. Several other students, who have completed portions of their tests, are moving forward in their studies to achieve more success. We are excited to see God moving and motivating these gals through our program.

We would be remiss to not mention the number of faithful volunteer tutors who come to Necole's Place daily to assist our clients in achieving their goals. Currently, we have about a dozen regular tutors and will always welcome more! The clients thrive when they have one on one tutoring. They feel valued, encouraged, and hopeful that they too can one day be a graduate of our program!
Basic Needs Drive

Southeast Christian Church (SECC) conduct s a Basic Needs Drive twice a year to service pregnancy centers in Louisville and surrounding areas. We are so grateful that this month we received two truck loads of diapers and wipes to assist our moms. An assembly line was formed with smiling staffers as we unloaded package after package. The men delivering for SECC were as friendly as they were helpful, and working with them was a bright spot in our day. Thank you to SECC for loving well. When we are able to meet a mom's material needs, we are given an opening to share the gospel of Jesus, the one who sustains all needs.
We Made it to Round Three!
Bra ckets for Good 2016 was an amazing event for us! This was our second year participating in this online, competitive fundraising tournament. Each week, we were paired against a local nonprofit, and the goal was to out-fundraise our opponent in order to advance in the tournament. The end of each round was intense, with donations flying in at the last minute as each organization sought to stay in the tournament. We had one or two faithful donors who were monitoring the scoreboard each week, and they gave generously to keep us in the lead!

By Round 3, there were only 16 nonprofits left, and each nonprofit pulled out the stops to raise more money. But our opponent in Round 3 played a good game and regained the lead at the last minute, knocking us out of the tournament for this year. We are pleased to report that we raised a total of $6,887. That's
3 times more than last year!  Thanks to all of our supporters!
We also had the privilege to attend the Brackets for Good "Supported Sixteen" pizza party (see photo), hosted by title sponsor Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, who graciously provided lunch for the attending nonprofits. A big thanks to Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP and our division sponsor, Epic Insurance Solutions, who helped make this tournament possible! We're looking forward to what next year's tournament will bring!
