Athletic Director, Dave Dennehy!
The Connecticut Association of Athletic Directors (CAAD) presented
St. Paul Athletic Director, David Dennehy the NIAAA State Award of Merit for the state of CT.
The NIAAA State Award of Merit is presented annually by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association to the NIAAA member recognizing their service, leadership and special contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local and state levels.
David's commitment and dedication to the students and programs
here at St. Paul has earned him the respect and trust of everyone around him.
Congratulations Dave! We are all very lucky to have you!

St. Paul Alum, Steve Pikiell '86,
Introduced as New Coach of
Rutgers Men's Basketball
Rutgers University officially announced Bristol native and former
Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell as the program's next men's basketball head coach.
A press conference was held at the Rutgers Athletic Center to formally introduce Pikiell. "In order to achieve you must believe," Pikiell said at the conference.
"I believe in Rutgers and I believe they gave me a chance,
and I don't let people down. I believe that we will dance."

Dr. Henry Lee brings his
Forensic Science experience to St. Paul
Dr. Henry Lee recently visited St. Paul Catholic High School
to address the entire student body.
Dr. Lee's presentation focused on his career in forensic science and his personal story of hard work and dedication. Dr. Lee shared the results of some of the more interesting cases he has worked on in the last 40 years.
He has helped to solve more than 6,000 cases during his career and has been associated with investigations such as the O.J. Simpson murder trial, the Browns Chicken Massacre in Palatine, Illinois, the Elizabeth Smart abduction in Salt Lake City, Utah and the Jon Benet Ramsey case in Boulder, Colorado.
Dr. Lee is currently the Chief Emeritus for the Department of Public Safety, Division of Scientific Services here is Connecticut and served as Connecticut's Chief Criminalist from 1979-2000. Dr. Lee is the founder of the Forensic Sciences program at the University of New Haven.

United Way Youth Board's Regional
"Don't Be Afraid to Dance with Finance" Forum

The United Way of West Central Connecticut
and their United Way Youth Board hosted their annual forum titled
"Don't Be Afraid to Dance with Finance."
The group hosted over 100 students from six schools in our area - Bristol Central, Eastern, St. Paul Catholic, Lewis Mills, Plainville High and Terryville High School. Our very own, St. Paul Seniors, Sarah Bowes and Mike Dombrowski
were emcees for the evening.
Keynote speaker Todd Burton from
Thomaston Savings Bank
offered his advice on planning for their financial future after high school and college. The United Way Youth Board also had a financial reality fair component featuring informational booths with information on insurance, apartment rentals, establishing credit and investments; one of which featured St. Paul parent Pat Collins.

St. Paul Students Attend
Chrism Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral in Hartford
Open Yourself to the World, and Allow God to Enter!
That was the message of Archbishop Blair's homily at the Chrism Mass held last week at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
"The greatest gift we can share is the living faith in God and sharing it with others," he said. He referenced soon-to-become saint, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, saying that she was a model of practicing the corporal works of mercy and often said that people were not just hungry for bread, but for Christ.
At the Mass,
the Archbishop blessed the three oils which will be used in the upcoming year (and distributed to all parishes in the Archdiocese) during the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, the Anointing of the Sick, the ordination of priests and the consecration of altars, and churches.
The most eminent of the three holy oils is the Sacred Chrism; the other two oils are the Oil of the Sick, and the Oil of the Catechumens.
During the Mass, priests from across the Archdiocese renewed their priestly vows. "The Chrism Mass is a clear expression of unity of the priesthood and the sacrifice of Christ," said the Archbishop.

St. Paul Performing Arts Production of
RAGS
and Special Guest of Honor!
This year St. Paul Performing Arts presents a rare chance to see the 1986 Broadway musical, Rags. Set in 1910, Rags follows the story of Rebecca, a young Russian immigrant mother, arriving in America with her son, David, and forced to work in a sweatshop to survive while sheendeavors to find her husband.
The joy of finding him, however, soon turns to anguish when she discovers that he has rejected much of his ethnic culture, in an attempt to assimilate with American society. Struggling to reconcile their differences and make a new life for themselves, Rags is a tale of identity, love and loss amid the hardship of immigrant life.
This year's cast is comprised of 35 talented drama students, chorus members, dancers and a stage crew of twelve. Boasting a fantastic set design, detailed period costumes made in house and a spectacular 24 piece orchestra, this show promises to be a wonderful production.
*Charles Strouse, the composer of RAGS, will be our special guest of honor at our Sunday, April 24th matinee. He will speak to the cast after the production.

Happy Easter!
Christ is risen: Alleluia! Truly He is risen: Alleluia!
We write to you in the midst of the Octave of Easter, the week which extends our celebration of Easter Sunday. Christ's triumph over death is too great to contain in one day. Our Easter Season lasts 50 days, until Pentecost.
The Sunday after Easter (April 3), which concludes our octave, is Divine Mercy Sunday, a particularly special day during this Year of Mercy. In the Archdiocese of Hartford
http://archdioceseofhartford.org/divine-mercy-pilgrimage/, we will have an opportunity to participate in a procession from Bushnell Park to the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Archbishop Blair. The procession begins at 2pm and continues at the Cathedral at 3pm. Participants will have an opportunity to pass through our archdiocesan Holy Door for the Year of Mercy and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation to fulfill the plenary indulgence for themselves or loved ones who have died. St. Paul students visited Ingraham Manor in Bristol last week to make an
Easter craft with the residents. This is part of our
Mercy at St. Paul initiative -
giving students opportunities to complete the
Corporal Works of Mercy throughout the year.
The work of mercy was "visit the sick".

The National Honor Society will hold its 7th Annual Craft Fair on
Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 10:00am - 3:00pm.
The Craft Fair will take place in St. Paul Catholic's gym. Stop by and have lunch and shop at over 40 different vendors. All proceeds to benefit the school.

Donations Needed for St. Paul Sewing Club!
|
What did you give up for Lent?
If you are among those who choose to give up things
you are no longer using, consider donating your unused craft supplies
to the St. Paul sewing club.
Members are currently working on a service project to make baby booties and blankets that will be donated to a hospital. Materials especially needed are: Knitting needles (any size, but US6 preferred), yarn (any weight, but worsted/#4 preferred) and fleece (any pieces large or small/solid or print, but 2 yards preferred).
All donations should be delivered to the Sewing Club box outside the main office. The club has many projects that benefit others and any items - such as thread, notions, machines, fabric, etc. - will be put to good use.
As always, donations are tax deductible.

The Registrar of Voters is looking for people to work at the polls on
Primary Day and then on Election Day in November.
From 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Pay can range from $175 to $250.
