Micro and Recreational Soccer
Registration Opens April 1stRegistration

It may be hard to believe, but it's  time to register for Mercer Island FC Fall Recreational and Micro soccer. Starting April 1st, you can go to the MIFC website registration page and sign up for fall soccer.

"Why so early" you ask? Well, there are several reasons -
  •  With ~1200 kids in MIFC programs, we need time to get players assigned to teams across U6-U19 age groups. We start with returning players being assigned to their previous team, then fill out rosters with new players.
  • We target to have rosters completed and ready to distribute to coaches in July.
  • The leagues our MIFC teams compete in start working on their schedules early in the summer. So they want the member clubs like MIFC to have an idea of how many teams we'll be fielding that they have to plan for.
  • A lot of work goes into planning the practice time slots and game schedules for the 100+ MIFC teams for the summer and fall.
  • Finally, we know Mercer Island families are busy and are already beginning to plan their summer and fall activities.
On April 1st, you can register for Recreational soccer, Micro soccer or any of our program offerings on the club website at www.mercerislandfc.org and selecting the tab on the left-side labeled "Registration".

If you have a Select soccer player, you can register now for Select tryouts at  MIFC Select Tryouts. The tryout schedule for May will be announced in the next week or two.

MIFC Signs on as an Adidas ClubAdidasclub

Mercer Island FC has worn Adidas kits for our Micro, Recreational and Select teams over the past several years. This month MIFC formalized the relationship, signing a 5 year contract to wear Adidas gear. In addition to giving the club access to the latest in uniform design and equipment, the contract will also provide benefits we can share with our coaches and players. Some examples are discounts on gear, budgets for outfitting coaches, access to international tournament travel support and financial support for MIFC hosted jamborees or tournaments.

Board members Jenny Probert (VP of Competition) and Sarah LeClercq (Director of Equipment and Uniforms) had the initial discussions with Adidas about formalizing the relationship. "We are very excited with this deal and the access it will give the club to the broad range of the products and services Adidas brings to the sport of soccer", said Probert.

Earlier this month, Eastside FC, the Premier Soccer club for the Eastside Youth Soccer Association, announced they had been selected as an official youth soccer partner of the Seattle Sounders FC. This follows on the heels of EFC's selection as a US Soccer Development Academy Club for U12 boys. These agreements highlight the quality of EFC and the respect they have regionally and nationally.

Mercer Island FC has a strong partnership with EFC, including Mercer Island based teams playing in the Regional Club League (RCL) Juniors U8 & 9 leagues, access to EFC sponsored player and coach development programs, and tryouts for the Preston based EFC Premier teams.

Another busy month, another long newsletter. We try to keep the newsletter as brief as possible, but there is so much going on with Mercer Island FC, Mercer Island High School Boys Soccer, the Eastside Youth Soccer Association and Eastside FC, it's hard to cut out content. So we keep the articles brief, with links to additional details and content if you want the whole story.

April is always busy for the club with Micro soccer and Recreational soccer registration opening up, Girls High School aged Select teams playing their regular season, and MIFC's Spring Training Academy in full swing. As explained in the article above, while it seems early for fall registration, there are a number of steps that go into getting rosters organized, teams slotted into leagues and coaches the information they need to start with their players in the summer. Don't forget to mark your calendar for April 1st registration for you Micro or Recreational player.

In addition, the tryout schedule for Mercer Island FC Select teams is getting finalized. Tryouts will be over several weeks in early May, with younger players (2007 birthdays/U10) starting first and working through the older age groups. As soon as the tryout schedule is finalized (dates/times/locations), we'll send it out. In the meantime, you can register now for tryouts on the club website at MIFC Select Tryouts. Registering early gives us an idea of how many players to plan for at tryouts. Please take a moment and do it now for your player interested in trying out for one of our Select teams.

Finally, if you are a Sounders FC fan like I am, you have to be disappointed in their slow start. A combination of injuries, some bad luck and a few questionable calls have contributed to their 0-3 record. On the bright side, the defending MLS champion Portland Timbers (it is very hard to write that) had a slow start last year and finished strong. And we have our own Jordan Morris to cheer on as the Sounders look to right themselves and get back in the hunt for a title. Keep the faith!

See you on the pitch.
