JULIE SMOLYANSKY ON SEVEN WAYS SHE GREW THE FAMILY BUSINESS
When Julie Smolyansky, President & CEO of Lifeway Foods, Inc., took over Lifeway Foods, she became the youngest female CEO of a publicly traded company. With the help of her mother and brother, she has grown the business to $150 million with 350 employees. FASHION DESIGNER CREATES NEW LABELS FOR LIFEWAY FOODS' FERMENTED MILK DRINK  
Julie Smolyansky officially launched a collaboration in early March with designer Cynthia Rowley to design a line of Kefir to coincide with the launch of Rowley's new spring activewear line.
 
"Being a runner myself and a sports person, I was so thrilled to have some fashion in my athletic wear," Julie Smolyansky told Fast Company. "I also thought, 'Hey, this could be an interesting collaboration where she could design our labels and use a pattern from her collection to kind of bring that design element and fashion and sexiness to our line of kefir products." WHO SHAPES CHICAGO 2016 INCLUDES TWO TCN MEMBERS
Newcity recently published a list of 50 Chicago innovators who have had an impact on the city in a revolutionary, bold way. Topping the list was Jeanne Gang. According to Newcity, Jeanne "is actively redefining how cities are designed to function, in the process solidifying Chicago as a byword for architectural intrigue and excellence," the article noted. Carol Ross Barney, Principal, founder, and architect of Ross Barney Architects, was ranked #3 on the list and was praised for "Weaving together the 'in-between spaces' of our city and elevating the public sphere." GOVERNORS STATE UNIVERSITY EMPHASIZES IMPORTANCE OF FRESHMAN EDUCATION
Elaine Maimon and Governors State University were praised for being among the scarce number of schools that have full-time professors teaching all freshman courses. "The hardest courses to teach are the freshman courses - that's where you're introducing students to critical thinking and writing and initiating them to the academy," says Elaine Maimon. LYNN THURBER ELECTED TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF ACADIA REALTY TRUST
Lynn Thurber was elected as an independent trustee of Acadia Realty Trust, effective immediately. Lynn is the Chairman of LaSalle Investment Management, a leading real estate investment management firm. She also chairs the Jones Lang LaSalle committee for the firm's co-investment activity, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jones Lang LaSalle Income Property Trust. "Lynn is an industry leader, with significant private and public real estate investment experience," stated Lee S. Wielanksy, Lead Trustee of Acadia's Board of Trustees. "Her perspective will be a valuable addition to the conversation as we continue to thoughtfully execute a growth strategy based on complementary, dual-core and fund- operating platforms." SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY HOSTS GRAND REOPENING
Saint Xavier University celebrated the grand re-opening of their Student Veteran Resource Center on Tuesday, March 22. SXU's Student Veteran Alliance was awarded $10,000 from the Home Depot Foundation's VetCenter grant and Student Veterans of America in August 2015 to fund renovations for SXU's Student Veterans Resource Center, making the space modern and efficient for student veteran use. STRITCH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE MATCH DAY CELEBRATION
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and Dean Linda Brubaker celebrated Match Day on March 18 along with other medical schools across the country. This is the day that medical students nationwide receive their residency placements.
