Everyday is Food Day with ECO City Farms!

You don't want to miss out!
Food Day is Saturday October 24th from 2-5pm.
 
Visit the home of the Port Towns Farmers Market (a block away from our Bladensburg Farm) in Bladensburg, MD to celebrate Food Day with ECO City Farms! We'll have music, food, farm tours, a farmer photo booth, apple tasting, face-painting and other activities for kids, cooking demonstrations and our famous smoothie bike.  This event is free.
 
Come spend a beautiful fall day celebrating the harvest and food!

Farmers Market: Thursdays 3-7pm
Volunteer for Food Day 2015!
Since Food Day is a big celebration, we are in need of helpful and friendly volunteers. 

Set-up time starts at 12pm and take down and clean-up can last until 6pm. Please plan to help for at least 3 hours. You do not have to stay for the whole time, but it is greatly preferred.



All volunteers will receive a FREE T-SHIRT!!

Jobs include: 
  • Set up (setting up the area with tables, tents and chairs, placing directional signs)
  • Directing traffic and parking area
  • Check-in and counting attendees
  • Manning the smoothie bikes
  • Assisting with cooking demos
  • Assisting with photo booth
  • Supervising kids activities area (coloring pages and pumpkin painting)
  • Take down/clean-up.

Microgreens Informational Gathering

Join us for a informational gathering on Microgreens where Mary Ackley, from DC's Little Wild Things, and Deborah Wren & Diana Agonoy of ECO City Farms will share their experiences growing microgreens, exploring the struggles of indoor and outdoor production, sales techniques and crop varieties. 

Come learn from their successes and failures, get tips on how to produce small-scale or large-scale, and have a tour of our ECO City Farms production facility.

Refreshments will be served .

Sign Up for a Fall/Winter CSA!!
The Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 season runs from October 15th 2015 to March 17th 2016.

ECO City Farms has shares available for the upcoming fall/winter season of its farm share program to Prince George's County residents. Members sign up and pay for the season ahead of time, and pick up up a share of produce each week, containing a different mix of produce, depending on what is in season. The taste, freshness and health benefits of fresh, locally grown produce are tremendous.
 
Produce is sustainably grown either by ECO City Farms or by area sustainable farmers. Produce from ECO City Farms is Certified Naturally Grown, without any pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Two sizes for affordable healthy eating choices:
LARGE SIZE:
This share runs 18 weeks from October 15 to March 17th.
Cost: $17/week with purchase of 18 week season, at $306.
Quantity: Receive 6 items per week.
  
SMALL SIZE:
This share runs 9 weeks from October 15 to December 17th.
Cost: $12/week with purchase of 9 week season, at $108.  SNAP/WICcustomers pay $10 week with a monthly commitment and a $20 deposit.
Quantity: Receive 4 items per week.   

What will you get?  
We plan to have greens: such as kale, swiss chard, collards, mustards, spinach, lettuces; as well as apples, kohlrabi, turnips, winter squash, scallions and herbs. Everything that grows in season right here.
 
New this Fall! - Biweekly Egg Share  
Add a dozen locally produced free range eggs onto your share every other week for an additional cost of $45 for large shares or $25 for small shares.

Pick up weekly at these locations: 
Thursdays: 3-7pm at Riverdale Farmers Market 4705 Queensbury Rd., Riverdale Park, Md. or
Saturdays: 10am-12pm at ECO's Edmonston Farm, 4913 Crittenden Street, Edmonston, Md.

Virginia Urban Agriculture Summit

Urban Agriculture is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food around an urban setting taking the form of backyard, rooftop and community gardens on vacant lots.  Featured speakers will include Ben Greene with the Farmery in North Carolina, Ben Flanner, head farmer and president of Brooklyn Grange Farm in Brooklyn New York and many other insightful and motivating speakers.  Conference will feature urban farm tours and opportunities to connect with fellow urban farmers.  Click  here  to register or to learn more.

ECO's CEO and Founder, Margaret Morgan-Hubbard, will be speaking at the summit on Friday, October 23rd about Economics at ECO City Farms!

Open Volunteer Hours

Come and get your hands dirty and help us run our farms! Perfect way to spend a day outdoors and get those required service learning hours. The volunteer season is March to November.


Work is from  9am - 12:00pm at each location. Please plan to be there for the whole time period.  No need to rsvp if you are coming, unless you have more than three people coming with you.

> Edmonston Farm: Volunteer hours are on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month.

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
Thursdays 3-7pm
ECO has a regular farm stand at the year-round  Riverdale Park Farmers Market Enjoy the live music and conversation. Come visit our stand and chat with farmer Deborah about what's in season and share your yummy recipes with Amanda. 

The Riverdale Park Farmers Market is  located in the MARC train station parking lot (4650 Queensbury Road Riverdale Park, MD 20737).
