Teacher Spotlight:
Miss Cicchinelli

Hello! My name is Miss Anna Cicchinelli and I am a First Grade teacher here at Horizon Science Academy. I graduated from Hiram College in May of 2015 and received my job here shortly after. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the First Grade; my passion for teaching has grown ever since. I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, where I attended St.Vincent-St.Mary High School. I have played soccer since the age of four and played at the collegiate level. My family loves to travel and we spent 16 days touring Italy this past summer. I look forward to getting to know all of you and working together to help your students become the best they can be; inside and outside of the classroom. Can't wait to see you around!

    Courthouse Visit

On September 17th, four eighth graders made a trip to Downtown Youngstown for a visit to the Mahoning County Main Courthouse. The students got to see the opening ceremony of National Hispanic Heritage Month, in which twenty-two Hispanic countries were represented. Mr. William Blake, Director of Youngstown State University's Student Diversity Programs, made the opening remarks. Also in attendance were YSU President Jim Tressel and Youngstown Mayor John McNally. This trip was a chance for the students to see how our community celebrates different cultures. The event was co-sponsored by the YSU Hispanic Heritage Planning Committee, as well as the YSU Office of Student Diversity Programs.

Grandparents Breakfast

On Thursday, September 17th, 2015 the students at Horizon Science Academy Youngstown honored their grandparents at a breakfast organized by the staff and administration. Students were allowed to invite their grandparents to join them for a tasty breakfast catered by The Fifth Season 's Restaurant.

Students showed their gratitude and love for their grandparents by creating homemade placemats and cards. Pictures were taken and students were allowed to shop our Scholastic Book Fair where many grandparents rewarded their students with purchases.

Grandparents were given a raffle ticket for attending, and at the end of the breakfast the administration raffled off several books and the grand prize - a basket filled with books and other goodies. It was an enjoyable morning filled with much love and affection shared between grandparents and students.
