AP Spanish Superstars
TJ's AP Spanish is more successful than ever.
For the first time in the history of Thomas Jefferson High School, every student in the 2014-2015 Advanced Placement Spanish class passed their AP exam with a score of at least 3 or higher. With sixteen students, the average class score was 3.867, with four students scoring a 3, nine students scoring a 4, and two students scoring a 5. TJ is the only school in the district with this success in AP Spanish, yet teacher Marcelino Yantas is committed to further improve this feat. Read more 
Distinguished Student Nominees
Congratulations!
On October 19, in Loveland, CO, at the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented Annual State Conference, Spartans Leora Busse, Jabril Jeylani, and Roger Nakagawa will be recognized as the outstanding Distinguished Student nominees from Thomas Jefferson High School. 

Nominations were made last year by TJ Faculty and Staff.  Those students then had to complete an essay and other requirements to be recognized.  High School students from all over the state will join these three in being recognized with this extraordinary distinction. Key into TJ's Music
TJ's instrumental music program performs creative works throughout the year.
TJ's instrumental music classes are an important part of TJ's arts program. With eight different groups of performers, the bands and orchestras are dedicated to their instruments and eager to practice every day. "The wonderful thing about teaching music is that the students in my class have chosen to be there," said Robin Johnson , TJ's Instrumental Music teacher and conductor. "They come to my classes eager to learn and be challenged." Read more 
Health News - Flu Shots Available
October 20th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the  Denver Health School Based Health Clinic at Thomas Jefferson
 
Cost: The flu shot is free if you have one of the following insurance carriers. Cigna, Anthem BCBS, Rocky Mountain Health Partners, United Health Care/Tricare, Aetna or Multiplan/PHCS.

Scary Movie Night - Thursday, October 29, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Join Leadership for a scary movie night on October 29th!
Tickets will be sold the week of October 26 th. Tickets will be $3 and that comes with a bag of popcorn. We will have five chaperones in the auditorium that night. Class of 2018 will be selling candy until 6:15, popcorn will also be served during that time. Candy will be $1. Students are expected to be out of the building by 8:15pm. We are looking to have some fun right before Halloween, so we will be showing a scary movie. Spartans, get ready to enjoy the night!

Start Applying to College -
If you haven't done so already, start the college process by entering the colleges of where you're applying in Naviance. If you need directions on how to do this, please see your counselors, Ms. Maez, or check out this link here.
 
Other info:
  1. Transcripts for college= request in Naviance and your counselor will send them.
  2. Transcripts for scholarships= request from Ms. Allen.
  3. If you have completed a college fee waiver with Ms. Maez, it will get sent when you request your transcripts in Naviance.
  4. Your ACT fee waiver will not count as a college fee waiver.
College Visits at TJ-
Please sign up for college visits in Naviance. When a college representative visits, he/she is usually the first person who will read your college application. Although you may have already visited the campus, speaking first hand with an admission representative will help them to remember you among hundreds of applicants.

University of Northern Colorado Events:
Application Day- Wednesday, 10/21, at 2pm, Future Center-  Complete your UNC college application and receive a fee waiver with the support of representatives from UNC.  Please sign up  here   by 10/20 or let Ms. Maez know if you plan to attend.
 
Visit to UNC on 10/22-  
Preference will be given to the following students:
 
1.  The first 18 to turn in their application documents .
2.  Those who are not failing classes.
3.  Those who have not visited UNC during the past calendar year.
4.  Seniors who have listed UNC under "Colleges That I'm Applying to" in their Naviance accounts.  
 
You must turn in application documents to be considered for the trip.
 
Teachers, counselors, and administrators have final approval on the attendance list for this trip.
 
Colorado State University-
CSU is interested in hosting an application workshop for TJ students in which you can complete your application with a fee waiver. If you're interested, please let Ms. Maez know by the 10/15 (That's TODAY!).
