The official e-newsletter of St. Andrew's Episcopal School Alumni
January 2016

Dear Alumni Community,

Happy New Year! I hope you and your families enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. The 2015 calendar year brought new connections and reunions, new alumni community members, and sadly, losses as well. As we reflect on 2015, St. Andrew's is so appreciative of all of the alumni support and excited for what the coming year will bring.

In 2016, we see an opportunity for growth and a chance to strengthen the Alumni Association. Over the next 12 months, you'll see more events, community outreach, learning opportunities and more. We hope you'll join us on this journey by attending events, providing volunteer and Lion's Fund support, and staying engaged.

Here is to a wonderful 2016 for all!

Best,
Madeline Wallace O'Brien '05

Bokamoso's Arrival

Last week, 14 youth from The Bokamoso Life Centre in Winterveldt, South Africa arrived for St. Andrew's annual exchange program. The Bokamoso Life Centre is a community development center that empowers youth to become positive role models in their community through education, music and drama. Serving vulnerable young people between the ages of 17 to 25 who long for a hopeful and secure future, the Centre uses song, dance, drama and story-telling as a way to help the youth better understand and overcome the challenges they face and to set career and life goals for their future. While here, Bokamoso students live with St. Andrew's families and travel to several locations in the Washington, D.C., area to perform including George Washington University. Oral History Project 2016
St. Andrew's Juniors are seeking interviewees for their Oral History Project.

St. Andrew's students have documented first-hand accounts of such historical topics as the Civil Rights Movement, numerous wars and global conflicts, the pursuit of the American Dream, the Space Race and much, much more. These interviews offer a unique view of historical events through the eyes (and mouths) of those who live it. Past interviewees include Lloyd Emerson who was a tank gunner at the Battle of the Bulge, Leslie Wagner-Wilson, a survivor of the 1979 Jonestown Massacre, and John Carlos, winner of the 1968 Olympics 200-meter gold medal. If you, or someone you know, would like to be considered for an interview subject, please contact Glenn Whitman at [email protected].
