Student Pick Up and Drop Off Locations
In the morning, student drop off will be along Sampson Street where students will be able to enter through the gate and main entrance.
Please drop your child off on the school side of the street so they do not have to cross through traffic.

In the afternoon, car pick up is along Jefferson Street only. Students must exit out the end of the sophomore hallway and meet their vehicle on Jefferson Steet. Students will not be allowed to cross Sampson Street to meet vehicles.
Visitor and Parent Parking
Parking for parents and visitors to our campus is parallel parking on Sampson Street.  The only entrance for visitors and parents is our main entrance on Sampson Street.  In order to meet safety and security needs all other doors will be locked.
Official ADA Time
Energy's official ADA time this year is
10:10 AM.
Please schedule your child's appointments so that he or she is back to school by 10:10 AM or leaves after 10:10 AM. We receive our funding based on attendance at this time. Funding allows us to provide more for your child!

Our first ever Robotics Competition team had another successful weekend!  Our team partipated in the second in a three-part series of HISD UIL VEX Robotics Competitions. We competed with 2 robots (one from the classroom, and one from the Freshman team), alongside 18 others from across the district. After the qualification rounds, the classroom robot, built by Noah Goff, was seeded 1st in the entire competition, while the Freshmen robot was seeded 4th. During eliminations, in a very close final match, the Freshman team lost in the semi-final rounds, placing 3rd overall in the competition. The in-class robot banked some clutch shots in its first match, then played incredible defense in the third, before finally emerging victorious as the TOURNAMENT CHAMPION once again, winning the final match with a score of 112 to 21!! This is the second 1st place win for Energy Robotics this season. If you're interested in getting involved with the team, please see Ms. R Alexander in Room 120 for information regarding next semester.
Student of the Week
This week's student of the week has exemplified the skills and characteristics we hope all student leaders at Energy will develop. Amanda Rodriguez showed initiative this year and volunteered to help manage the newsletter's Student of the Week section.  Amanda manages the section by reviewing and collecting nominations, scheduling and interviewing students, taking their photos, writing student spotlight, and submitting to Ms. Moon by the newsletter submission deadline. Amanda responds to emails professionally and has taken complete ownership over this project.  She has shown excellent work ethic and has proved to be a truly reliable partner in writing the newsletter each week.  Amanda Rodriguez is a vital contributing member to the Energy community. Ms. Gianukos wrote a glowing recommendation stating, "this year, Amanda has not only stood out as being a school leader, but - within the classroom - she has demonstrated academic perseverance. Her congenial  personality and determination this year have been exemplary, and she inspires others to accomplish their goals. We are quite proud to have her a part of the Energy family."  Amanda says she keeps focused thanks to her parents.  "My parents inspire me to succeed.  Seeing them work hard makes me want to acheive something in life they couldn't or didn't have the opportunity to."  Amanda came to Energy because she knew she wanted to have a different high school experience than her peers. "What I like best about Energy, is the variety of student clubs and organizations we have.  I also really appreciate the diversity of our student body."  Amanda is interested in pursuing a degree from Texas A&M Galveston in Agricultural and Biological Engineering.  "My ultimate goal is to wake up every morning and have a passion for what I do."  I would say that passion and drive are already very evident in Amanda. Keep up the great work!
OTC Presenter Showcase
We are excited to announce that Energy Institute High School students have received a special invitation to participate as presenters at the 2016 Offshore Technology Conference!

This is an open call for all students interested in competing for one of three coveted presentation spots!  Students are encouraged to create teams of up to four students and develop a project and presentation that connects work you've done in the classroom, personal interests, or invention ideas to the Offshore Technology sector.  The requirements are vague to encourage your creativity.  Interested teams will be paired with an industry mentor who can help provide context and support as you prepare.

All teams will present their projects to a team of industry professionals for final judging!  Project proposals are due to Mrs. MacGregor or Ms. Moon by Thursday.  View the project proposal here!
Final Exam Schedule
Semester final exams will start Tuesday December 15th and be completed by Friday, December 18th.

Students will have two finals a day except for Friday, they will just have their last one.  The first final will begin at 8:05 and end at 9:40.  The second will begin at 9:50 and end by 11:20.  During final exam week lunch will be served from 11:20 - 12:00. Students will not be allowed to spend their lunch outside and will be encouraged to attend tutorials offered during that time.  Buses will be dismissed by 12:05.  Cohorts will have different schedules regarding which finals will be given each day.  A personalized exam schedule will be sent home through cohort teachers next week.

Friday students will take their last exam and will have lunch until 10:45 when buses will be dismissed.

Remember, final exams are worth 20% of your semester grade so it is important to begin reviewing the semesters material now. Tutorials are offered daily throughout lunch, please take advantage of the extra time and support teachers are providing.

Club Announcements
This week club meetings will be replaced by tutorials in preparation for final exams.  Club meetings will resume after Winter Break.

Club Spotlight: Meet our JV InvenTeam sponsored by Dr. Gibson.

Lemelson-MIT JV InvenTeams™ are comprised of students in grades 9-10 who hone their hands-on skills and enrich their STEM education through invention-based design activities.
Students learn how to safely use tools and explore new materials to use in hands-on projects. Teams of students practice invention-based design activities and apply their learned skills to create useful and unique projects, including shoe soles and wearable electronics. They build confidence and curiosity around STEM areas including structures, electricity, materials, and robotics. Students develop greater appreciation for the role of invention in improving lives.

JV InvenTeam meets Fridays at 12:15 in Room 212.

The MLG Cohort ended PBL 3: Disaster Heroes with a small exhibit in the Student Media Lounge last week. Students rotated during 4th - 7th period and evaluate each others projects. The students created memorials for a natural disaster and developed a superhero character from their DNA that could thrive if the disaster were to happen again. The teams wrote a story to explain the superheroes existence, created a final sketch of the best superhero in the team and created a recycleable frame using debris that might be collected from disaster sites. Students really enjoyed this PBL and the teachers hope to create more interesting projects in the next semester. Great Job MLG!
