Construction Highlight

2016 Here We Come!! Believe it.

The construction crew has been working on the details while winter temperatures plummet to single-digits.

Soon it will be impossible to see the progress without going inside the building. We are only about six months out.
Congratulations, Sebra Choe!
Happily for us, Sebra recently moved from part-time to full-time at the library.

Sebra has worked at the library for two years as a part-time Library Specialist in Library Programming for teens. Many of you may not know her because she worked the out-of-site hours required to offer programs to teens in our current library. She is the person responsible for getting the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) organized and has overseen and participated in many off-site programs with TAB. When Youth Services Librarian, Dianna Manasse, left the library's employment, we  decided to restructure a bit and created a full-time Library Programming Library Specialist position to help handle the demand for and details of relevant programming for our patrons 0-100. The job was opened internally (to Town of Camp Verde employees) as required by Town policy and Sebra was our top choice.

You can find Sebra in the Green Room with Alice and Gerry. Please stop by to congratulate her, ask her about herself, and give her your wish list of programs you would like to see us offer.
Teens LIVE! Temporarily Suspended for the Next 4-6 Weeks
Pending hiring of new YS Librarian for teen services

CVCL has been offering Teens LIVE activities on Saturdays from 5:30p - 10:00p since October 2014. The program has grown from about 10 kids to 22+ each night. The original goal of Teens LIVE was to offer teens a time of their own to use library services since we do not have a specific space for them in the current library. The new library will have a Teen Library so the issue of having a space dedicated to teens 12-17 will be resolved. Sebra Choe, Wendy and Bill Cook have been keeping Teens LIVE going for the past couple of months. That changes with Sebra's new position.

We will be using the next 4-6 weeks to improve processes and formalize structure for Teens LIVE. We want to be sure we are meeting parents/guardians' expectations for supervision of their teens and providing meaningful activities to teens who frequent Teens LIVE.

If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions for Teens LIVE, please stop in and see Library Director, Kathy Hellman or call 554-8381,
Coloring for Grownups
Thursday, January 28 at 4:30p in the LP Room

Did you receive a coloring book as a gift?  Or, buy one for yourself?  Come to the library and play (I mean color).  Bring your own or color a page in one of the library's books, tear it out and keep it.  Use the library's crayons, markers, colored pencils and gel pens.  Yes! Color in a library book (sort of)!  Music and Hot Chocolate, too!
Is it a SCAM?
Watch for date and time in the LP Room

Do you wonder how to tell a legitimate offer or request from one that will take advantage of you? Join us as Lew Ann Perry, Licensed Fiduciary, talks about how to recognize and avoid methods used by scammers.
A Two-Part Writing Workshop - Journaling with Ann Metlay
Two Fridays:  February 5th and 19th from 9:00a to noon

Explore ways to get into a journaling frame-of-mind on a daily basis. Come prepared to try several different modalities, both as meditation leading into journaling or the process of journaling itself.

Much research has been done pairing journaling with increased mental health. Whether someone wants to heal a wound, find a job or lose weight, adding journaling to one's daily routine seems to help.

We all know about the routine:  Clear your mind, meditate, then write. For some of us, this is enough of a prompt to get us into a healthy habit of journaling. But, what do we do when this doesn't become a habit?  On February 5th we'll try various techniques. Then, on February 19th we will reconvene to discuss what worked and what didn't, and share ideas.

Until the new library building is open, workshops are held offsite. Registration is required due to limited space. To register stop by the Camp Verde Community Library or call (928) 554-8380.
Join Ms. Wendy for SPHERO Club Wednesdays @4:00p!

2 Part-Time Openings in Youth Services
Closes Monday, January 18 at 4:30p

Part of the restructuring of the Library Staff positions includes splitting the full-time Youth Services Librarian into 2 part-time positions. This was done for several reasons:

1. The needs for library services that teens and toddlers have are vastly different.  One position will focus on services to teens (12-17) and one will focus on services to children (0-11).
2. In the new building, the children's library will be on the first floor and the teen library on the second. It will be easier to manage both spaces with two people.
3. The hours required to serve teens are Thursday evening, Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon/evening. The hours needed for children tend more toward morning, daytime and early afternoon hours.

Depending on growth in the area, expansion of library services, and financial outlook, we expect one or both of these positions to go to full-time within 5 years. If you or someone you know has the educational background, experience and passion for serving either of these age groups, go to the Town of Camp Verde website for full details and an application.

To celebrate the building of the NEW Camp Verde Community Library, the Library is offering a chance to tell your library story to be published on the Library Talk Blog.

You don't have to be a "writer"  to write a story  featuring a true (or almost true) story  of memories of a library in your past or the importance of reading  that includes the word library. The story can take the form of memoir, short story, or creative non-fiction.

How to do it -
  • Write an original work of no more than 1,000 words
  • Add a title, your name, and a bio (50 word max)
  • Send your story in a MSWord or text document to [email protected]
  • Photos are optional, but welcome
The Library will be CLOSED Monday, 01/18 for MLK Day
