January News & Updates
Dear Valued Members & Supporters,

2015 was an eventful year for us as we hosted the 46th Annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival on Main Street, celebrated our Grand Opening at 1401 Kearns Boulevard and were proud participants in Vail's EpicPromise Chairs For Charity community fundraiser.

2016 will bring 6 phenomenal exhibitions to the Kimball as well as an increase in our offerings regarding both art classes and art education programs.  Our new Ceramics Studio and fine food from Uptown Fare will both open this month as well.

Our mission of serving the community is not something that we take lightly.  We sincerely hope that you'll join us throughout the New Year and provide us with feedback as to our progress.

With gratitude,

Robin Marrouche
Executive Director
Chairs For Charity: THANK YOU EpicPromise and Our Community!

Last month Vail Resorts and Park City Mountain Resort supported 18 local nonprofits by donating the long-time Motherlode Lift chairs for design by 18 different artists to be auctioned off to the public.

The chair that brought in the most votes and earned an additional $1,500 from EpicPromise was Renee Mox Hall's "Cherrari" for People's Health Clinic.

The Kimball would like to extend a very sincere thank you to R. Nelson Parrish (http://www.rnelsonparrish.com/) for having designed both our chair and color-coordinated Soul Poles (www.soulpoles.com).

Upcoming FREE Art Talk:  1/12/16

Join Chris Waddell on Tuesday, January 12th at the Kimball from 6 PM to 7 PM

Is It Lonely to be a Four-Leaf Clover?
It is about the idea of being separated for something good. A dandelion, by example, teaches the clover to be bold.

Too Hard For You
This is the story of the Kilimanjaro climb and the question of what if everyone told you that it was too hard for you. As we know, I made it to the top of the mountain, from which I can see a world of things that are too hard for me too.

Chris Waddell is one of the greatest Paralympic athletes in history, winning thirteen medals over seven Winter and Summer Games in two sports. The Dalai Lama named him an "Unsung Hero of Compassion," and People Magazine put him on its list of "50 Most Beautiful People." He was the first nearly unassisted paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, and is a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard and Paralympic Halls of Fame. Currently, he is a motivational speaker, television host, author, and founder of One Revolution Foundation, which seeks to turn the perception of disability upside down through acts like climbing Kilimanjaro, education, and storytelling. Chris lives in Park City, Utah with his wife, Jean, and dog, Ruby.

Beverly Joubert's work is a call to action. Big cats, rhinoceros, and elephants are in crisis, facing extinction after years of rampant poaching and habitat loss. As artists, conservationists, and National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence, Beverly and husband, Dereck Joubert, have spent decades fighting for these beloved creatures.  Through their internationally renowned wildlife films and other conservation efforts, the Jouberts celebrate the stunning beauty and power of these animals, urging viewers to recognize the consequences of inaction.

With stories of this fight for survival, Beverly Joubert's photographs demonstrate the artist's deep compassion for her subjects. Her work at the Kimball Art Center is accompanied by thoughts, lessons, and illuminations by the Jouberts of their 30 year journey with some of the worlds' most remarkable wildlife.

Education Update

EVA (Elementary Visual Art) program: We are pleased to announce that EVA has been recognized by PCEF as a signature or core program due to its value and benefit to students and the educational community. We begin the new year with the January EVA lesson which focuses on the basics of figure drawing.  Students will be able to experiment with and understand how shapes can be combined to create the basic form of the human figure.

ARTS (Academic Resources for Teachers and Students) School Program: We are pleased to announce our new digital sign-up for the new year!  You can now sign-up for ARTS Tours online at www.kimballartcenter.org/a-r-t-s/.  We are also excited for our next ARTS lesson where students will get to use polaroid cameras to capture the natural world, starting January 27th and available through April 24th.

Young Artists' Academy (YAA): We are currently working on developing our personal logos and revamping the YAA logo. In the new year we will learn more about graphic design/creative professions, complete the logo developments, have artwork photgraphed and create digital portfolios.

KAC Art Classes: Winter/Spring Art Class registration continues with exciting classes for all ages beginning this month! We have hired 14 new instructors, and are offering 118 classes this winter/spring.  We have 16 returning instructors also participating.   New media includes air brush illustration, Children's book design, Re-purposing/Re-fabricating gold and silver jewelry, puppet building, Glass mosaic, and The Field artist professional development workshops. We have also partnered with Weber State's Art Ed Dept. and are having a professor come to the KAC to teach a workshop to kids and teens with Art Ed students.
