Greetings Thought Partners,

As we are gearing up for our Thought Partner Convening on the 17th,  I'm very excited about Governor-elect John Bel Edwards championing an anti-poverty agenda.  What a wonderful fit with the work we are doing to identify our anti-poverty agenda and strategies.  Added to that, our Vice Chair for our Thought Partner Convening, Jan Moller, now serves on the Governor's Transition Committee charged with seeking solutions to the state's budget woes.  Jan is the Director of the Louisiana Budget Project [LBP] and the author of LBP's newsletter, The Daily Dime.  If you do not receive The Daily Dime, I strongly encourage you to sign up today and take some time to read through the archives as well as the new post.

In addition to Jan serving on the Fiscal Committee, our very own Erika McConduit Diggs, President and CEO of Urban League of Greater New Orleans, is now serving on the Governor's Transition Committee for Economic Development.  The Committee is tasked with generating ideas on ways to strengthen our economy, attract new businesses to the state and grow our existing businesses.  Their efforts will focus on investing in education to train the next generation of workers, expanding research and development activities at our institutions of higher learning, and workforce development to accommodate the new industries coming into our state.

Congratulations to both Jan and Erika.  I know they will represent the citizens of Louisiana very well.

Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards has said he will work to boost the minimum wage in Louisiana if Congress does not act on a federal increase, but that's not the only policy Edwards plans to put in place to help get more money to the working poor. Read more.
