Welcome to the final newsletter of 2015!

The past year was marked by a revamping of the airport and the addition of services. Even as I write this, Stein's Aircraft Services is busily finishing their fuel farm facility, and we are in the final closeout stages of both the Runway and Facility projects. In spite of the reduced activity this summer, the budget and operational activity is ending up quite favorably.

Looking ahead, we still have several improvement projects on standby including a ramp expansion, Runway Safety Area improvement, new Snow Removal Equipment building, and relocating Taxiway C. I am working very hard on qualifying for Federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds to accomplish at least one project in 2016. Rest assured, however, the remaining projects aren't nearly as impactful as replacing a runway!

As we prepare to open the doors to 2016, I'd like to thank you for a great year and for sticking with us through the construction. Have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to seeing all of you in the New Year.

Thank you and fly safe,

Kurt

Operations Update by Matt Grenoble

Snow Update
Even though we've had our first snow storm, winter still seems to be eluding us with these mild temperatures! Our snow removal team did a great job keeping 10/28 open during that storm. It was very wet and heavy snow so the runway required constant attention.

The mild start to the winter has allowed us to complete some minor pavement maintenance such as crack sealing on Taxiway E. Hopefully the weather trend continues, but I suspect our luck will run out soon!

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Drones

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), a.k.a. Drones, will undoubtedly be a popular gift this holiday season. If you plan to give someone a drone as a present, please be sure to include plenty of literature on how and where to safely operate it. Remember, if you want to fly it within 5 miles of any airport, you must notify airport management or the control tower. Know Before You Fly is a great website that everyone should visit before flying their new present!

If you see a drone operating near the airfield, please contact Airport Administration or Operations at 262-521-5250 to report it.
Looking Ahead to 2016
The New Year always lends itself to new planning here at the Airport Administration office! Here are some of the anticipated improvements for 2016.

A new economic impact study will be conducted and may require input from our airport users. In 2009, Carroll University completed this study (available herewhich included useful information in promoting Crites Field as a premiere destination for corporate and recreational pilots. We are looking forward to seeing how the growth of the airport over the last seven years has contributed to the economic benefit we provide to the community.

2016 will begin a multi-year reinvestment into our T-Hangars! Matt Grenoble's phased repair plan starts with structural upgrades to these affordable hangar options. Further improvements in the next few years will increase their life and appearance. Stay tuned for more details.

Speaking of hangars, winter is a great time to plan to build! Informational packets are ready to be picked up at the Airport Administration office highlighting two great locations on the airfield ( click here).  If you're interested in leasing one of these lots, please contact us at 262-521-5250 or via email.

Meta4, our marketing consulting firm, will be reaching out to tenants and airport users for the biennial Airport Tenant Survey. We value your feedback and continually look for ways to improve your airport.

Here's to a happy (and more improved!) 2016.
