Message from the President

"It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"
"We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility.
It's easy to say, it's not my child,
not my community, not my world, not my problem.
Then there are those who see the need and respond."
Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)
SOAR remains a member-driven advocacy organization,
connecting residents for more than four decades.
Once again, I want to convey gratitude for your membership in SOAR, as dues remain our largest source of income-and to welcome those who plan to join as new members.
I hope you will respond promptly, and generously, to the only Streeterville residential organization that responds to many aspects of your life here. New and renewing members will receive a copy of SOAR's Streeterville Neighborhood Plan.
- Please consider using our safe and secure link to review new membership categories and benefits.
- If you prefer to rejoin by phone, call the office at 312.280.2596, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and provide your credit or debit card number and expiration date. We'll be happy to assist you.
As always, I will be happy to respond to your questions and comments via
email
.

Traffic and Transportation
|
|
Tour Buses:
From SOAR Traffic and Transportation Task Force Chair Malek
Abdulsamad: Numerous factors contribute to traffic issues in Streeterville, including construction sites around the neighborhood, major attractions such as Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue attracting thousands of people. Another important factor is tour buses parking on the streets. Tour buses interrupt traffic flow and their idling adds more traffic, more noise and more pollution. In an effort to identify the tour bus parking locations, the task force searched the City's website and many other sources. We were able to find a MAP that shows the official locations for tour bus stops.
This map shows only three official tour bus stops in Streeterville: Navy Pier (Streeterville Drive), 200 E. Chicago (across from the MCA) and the 700 North block of Rush. The task force continues to work on this issue and address it with the offices of Alderman Hopkins (Ward 2) and Alderman Reilly (Ward 42) and the appropriate city departments. If you have any suggestions for specific locations where you think buses can safely stop without interfering with traffic, please email me.

Drug Drop-Off:
Drugs are often mistakenly deposited in toilets and drains that are destined for local waterways. Water treatment facilities are not designed to remove minute concentrations of pharmaceuticals, and the chemicals could eventually wind up in area streams and waterways and have a negative impact on water quality. Numerous studies show significant negative effects that pharmaceutical drugs have on aquatic life.
For this reason, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is permanently housing drug drop-off boxes at the MWRD's main office building, 100 E. Erie. Drop-off times are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm. The new 38-gallon Medsafe drug collection boxes do not accept illegal drugs, liquid containers more than four ounces, sharps containers, needles, syringes, batteries, aerosol spray cans, trash, medical devices, chemicals or other hazardous materials. When making a deposit, users are urged to keep the medications in the original packaging and containers when possible and to place liquid containers inside plastic bags before depositing. For more information on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, please
visit.
Fish Thriving in River: Apparently despite drugs in the water, the
Chicago River is host to many species of fish. Just look down.
Beach Protocol: A reminder for you and your guests to remove your trash at Ohio Street Beach and other Chicago beaches, also to use the many trash receptacles on Streeterville streets. If you have a
suggestion on a new location for a receptacle, contact Alderman Hopkins or Alderman Reilly.
