Celebrate Israel Parade 2016
The weather forecast was for rain but nothing Was "going to rain on our parade."  Sorry, I couldn't help it.  On Sunday, June 5, we embarked on our annual Celebrate Israel Parade.  The busses arrived shortly before 10 in both West Hempstead and Plainview.  We boarded the busses and made our way into the city.  Baruch Hashem there was just a bit of traffic.  As we got closer to the city the rain started coming down and then it started coming down even harder.  By the time we were ready to get off the busses it was really pouring.  But that did not stop us.  Ponchos were handed out and we made our way toward Fifth Avenue.  At the front of the Middle School section were both of our banners.  One banner was our Moses Hornstein Educational center banner and one was the banner with this year's theme.  The Middle School theme for this year was mesorah.  Our banner depicted a chain linking the past to the future.  It was expertly designed by Mrs. Marlena Schwartzman.  We were marching proudly in our beautiful blue t-shirts depicting the theme of Israel: Sight, Sound, and Spirit.  The students and faculty did a great job of marching down the avenue.  Special kudos to the faculty for ensuring the safety of all of our students. Yashar Koach to Mrs. Chaya Freedman for coordinating the parade this year.

Recognition Dinner

This year's eighth grade recognition dinner was held on June 7 at the Sephardic Temple.  Before the dinner, the students were videotaped saying their part for the cantata which will be shown at graduation.  The students were all dressed in their Shabbat clothing as well as their cap and gown.  After the videotaping, students changed out of their cap and gown and got ready for the recognition dinner.  It was nothing short of fantastic.  The evening began with "passing."  The students eagerly partook of the little hot dog knishes, potato knishes and egg rolls to name a few of the items.  The students were super-excited.  Next, the doors opened to the ballroom and the students went to their tables.  The balloon centerpieces and the stunning tablecloths and settings added to the evening immeasurably.  Rabbi Hecht introduced the evening by mentioning that it was a celebration of all of the chessed that the students did in and out of school.  It was also going to be a night where each student was in the spotlight as their middle school achievements were spoken about.  Next, Mrs. Schneider discussed the importance of chessed and she introduced Menachem Mendel Rosner.  Menachem Mendel had done many varied chassadim and he spoke about them with great pride.  Each student then received a certificate indicating the amount of chessed hours that they had done.  Students and faculty danced in celebration of the wonderful accomplishments.  Next was the delicious buffet.  Students and faculty genuinely enjoyed that.  The evening continued with different faculty members speaking about each and every student.  The students picture flashed on the screen.  They stepped up to the podium and heard from their teachers/principals.  At the end of the program, the students watched a fantastic video highlighting the past two years in HANC Middle School.  The students loved the program and were so appreciative!  Mazal Tov!
