ASSISTANT TO THE BISHOP'S VISIT
The Rev. Timothy P. Kade and The Rev. J. Derek Mathers
On Sunday, June 12, 2016, The Rev. J. Derek Mathers, Assistant to the Bishop and Mission Executive, had a wonderful time worshipping with The Rev. Timothy P. Kade and the people of Epic Lutheran Church in Shelby Twp., MI.

For the past ten years, Epic Lutheran Church held their worship services in movie theaters and a school.

Sunday, June 12th was a day to celebrate! The congregation dedicated their new building and established their mission in the local physical community.

Many people from the community attended the dedication service to see the new building, learn more about Epic Lutheran Church and participate in the celebration. Everyone was invited to stay afterwards to enjoy a fellowship meal.

Please pray that God blesses the people of Epic in this transition of their mission.

On Thursday morning, two men were presented with an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Award. Bishop Hardy said,  "The English District, Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod recognizes the years of service dedicated to the Lord, significant contributions to the Church, notable achievements of individuals in active Christian service, and the exemplary qualifications of those individuals in their field of service. An honorary Doctorate of Divinity is awarded in recognition of an individual's work in contribution to the ministry of the Church - ministerial, professional, and academic or a combination of any or all of the three areas. This year, it is my privilege to award two men with the distinction of honorary Doctor of Divinity."

The men who were given this honor are The Rev. Jerome H. Groth and The Rev. R. Wayne Morton. Both pastors had their wives and family members in attendance to celebrate this achievement and milestone in their lives.
