Raising the Roof...For the Next 100 Years
Every morning as we round the corner of Texas and Live Oak and see the new
Hope Cottage rising like a beacon, we remember why we do what we do. Every day we are reminded of the generous people, foundations and businesses who are making
Hope Cottage...For the Next 100 Years a reality.
The framework is up, the roof is on and you can really see how the finished product is going to look. We hope each and every one of you will stop by 609 Texas Street to see the new Hope Cottage up close and personal.

In construction projects it is traditional to sign the final beam. We chose instead to sign the beam that was placed over the front door to Hope Cottage - as a way of gracing and honoring all who have come before us and those who will come through our doors in the future.

The Porch...
During the early stages of the planning process, the building committee and Hope Cottage staff met several times with the architects to discuss the building and what was needed and wanted in the building.
Of course we would need offices and meeting rooms. We needed a space large enough to accommodate the many orientations and training sessions we do every year for adoptive parents, the community and healthcare professionals. The building needed to be functional and yet fit in with the architectural style of the surrounding area. Most importantly, the building needed to be warm, inviting and reminiscent of the first permanent home for Hope Cottage where so many children lived and where so many families were formed - the house on Welborn Street. Which brings us to ...the porch.
The porch played a very important part in the history of Hope Cottage. It was where families began. Children brought to Hope Cottage crossed over the front porch, beginning their new lives. The porch was the entry point to parenthood for thousands of hopeful men and women. And yes, some babies were even left on the porch of Hope Cottage in hopes that they would be taken care of and given a good home. The porch is an integral part of Hope Cottage and that legacy will continue in the new Hope Cottage.
The wrap around porch will run along the east side of the building, fronting onto Texas Street, and will be furnished with rocking chairs, ferns and ceiling fans (a plus for our long Texas summer). Not only will the porch provide an pleasing aesthetic to the neighborhood, but it will once again provide that first step towards building families as Hope Cottage has been doing for 97 years.
