It's time to let the wireless energy flow
Even though the technology has been around for ages, (anyone own a Sonicare?), before now they had not found a way to make it easy to charge our devices. Phones, tablets, toys all have to be plugged in. It's time to free yourself from the USB umbilical cord.
There is a new universal standard for wireless charging - Qi. This will make the wireless charging market explode. And I think that it's about time.
Qi is the Chinese word for "energy flow", pronounced like the "chee" in "cheese". The wireless power transfer occurs through electromagnetic induction. With inductive charging, the required power reaches the device not through a traditional cable but rather wirelessly through the use of electromagnetic fields.
Just a sample of what you can charge:
- Smart Phones and tablets that are Qi enabled
- Sony BSP10 Bluetooth speaker
Here are a few products that offer wireless charging:
- Qi2001 key ring - for devices not enabled with Qi technology
- Samsung SE 370 monitor (not out yet)
- Ikea furniture
- Evoni, Ikea's competitor in wireless charging furniture
