Wednesday, October 22nd- This course outlines the requirements set forth in Chapter 8 of the IBC. In addition, requirements related to plastic are included as part of the program. Attendees will have a greater understanding of how interior finishes are to be applied within a building, how they are tested, and ways to implement a desired design if not strictly code compliant.

AIA San Fernando Valley IDP Design Competition
|
The competition involves the design of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. Recently, this mission was lost due to fire. A new site has been selected and the AIA San Fernando Valley has worked with the staff of the mission to provide the programmatic requirements. While Survival Outreach Services has served as an emergency stopgap, the loss of the production, donation, residential facilities and half of the vehicles fleet has caused a significant loss of support of the mission's work with the homeless. This new facility will be enlarged enabling the mission to reduce the homeless population by offering self-sufficiency, life skills classes and training to the homeless.

Green Schools: Investing in Our Future
|
The Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit and Exposition comes to the Pasadena Convention Center on November 5-6, 2014. Keynote speakers will be Senator Fran Pavley and Rear Admiral Len Hering. Through an Expo with over 100 companies offering green products and services, dozens of educational sessions, and special events including a Leadership Awards reception, the Summit offers two days of total immersion in all aspects of green schools.
Concurrent sessions will focus on critical topics, from best practices for utilizing Prop 39 energy efficiency funds to water conservation techniques, funding for energy and building projects and environmental literacy. The Summit will also include a special Pre-Summit Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Schools Workshop, on November 4, presented in partnership with the New Buildings Institute and the California Public Utilities Commission. Founded in 1994, the ACE name stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering.
