Sponsorship Opportunities

Did you know sponsors are the foundation of many of our programs?  Their support of AIA Orange County allows us to expand our design awards; create events such as the Artwalk, member meetings, panel discussions, and COTE tours.  Sponsorship further helps us build a stronger associates program to help members advance to licensure, and provide ADA seminars for license renewal.

As we look to the value of AIA Orange County membership, our goal is to expand the opportunities provided for you to learn, experience, and mingle with other members and our communities.  We can achieve these goals through sponsorship support.  Click Here

President's Message

January is the time of the year for some of us who have made resolutions to start implementing them.  Although losing weight may be the number one on our personal list, growing and improving our practice tops many professional lists.

I joined AIA O.C. Board of Directors in 2009 searching for "value."  Three years as the chapter treasurer in a down economy taught me the challenges of providing value to our membership. We are all aware how having AIA letters after our name elevates our professional standing, and the power of our collective voices affecting policies and regulations that matters to our profession.  However, at the chapter level value is what our members will find by the process of participating in chapter programs and activities, for this is where they can network, market,  learn,  get inspired, and get to know people.

Our 2014 Board of Directors is compromised of passionate individuals. Together  with the support of our Executive Director and chapter staff, I am enthusiastic our programs for the year ahead will provide opportunities for participation for all. The 2014 calendar will continue to include our most popular programs, including but not limited to the COTE tours and lectures, annual Design Awards, Art Walk, Lunch Time Affiliate presentations in the chapter office, CES seminars, and a few new events still being developed. For complete details of monthly programming, I encourage you to please periodically check the calendar on the AIAOC web site, and make sure to open the AIAOC newsletter, Update delivered twice a month.

The 2014 Board looks forward to your support and attendance in chapter events, and hearing your ideas and suggestions to enhance membership value.  Wishing a happy and prosperous 2014 for all.

AIA Home Design Trend Survey

The survey measures general business conditions at residential architecture firms while also spotlighting architects' expertise on particular home design trends on a rotating basis. As a result, the news media, consultants, and other industry observers consider the HDTS a credible and useful housing business resource.

Nowhere is such information more valuable, however, than in the strategic decision-making that drives the residential design and construction industry. Architects need ready access to reliable, profession-specific information to plan for a better future.- Take Survey Here

AIA National Committee Opportunity -

Healthcare Design

The Design for Aging Knowledge Community partners with an outside group (Vendome in partnership with Center for Health Design) on a yearly conference, Environments for the Aging. This conference brings together developers, owners, design professionals, product manufacturers, academia, aging specialists, and government officials to  explore new ideas for creating places that  support people as they age.

It will take place May 3-6, 2014, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.

The DFA KC would love to have some local representatives that could help out with content planning from the AIA side. They are looking for anyone with Universal Design, Aging in Place, Facility Design, or CCRC Design experience. In addition, this conference hosts tours of local (45min radius) facilities, and it would be great to get some recommendations of places.

Please forward an email to [email protected] if interested in participating in this event.

Changes to AIA Continuing Education Requirements

Recognizing that sustainable design practices have become a mainstream design intention in the architectural community, the National AIA Board of Directors has     voted to allow the sustainable design education requirement to sunset at the end of calendar year 2012. AIA members will no longer need to complete the sustainable  design requirement to fulfill their AIA continuing education.  For 2013, AIA members  are required to satisfy a minimum of 18 LUs per year. Of this total, 12 must meet the  Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) criteria.  All sustainable design programs still  comply for HSW credit.
