Digby Dollars

How easy could this be? Terry Triem and Jason Walls each won a $50 VISA gift card - just for "liking" the page of the best looking armadillo in Texas. The "like Digby" contest generated a lot of love for our ruggedly handsome mascot, and he paid out the dough just in time for Black Friday shopping.

KTVT Channel 11 CBS Story

Texas811 was not only in the Dallas Morning News and the Dallas Business Journal - we were also part of a feature done by KTVT reporter Jason Allen. KTVT is the CBS owned and operated affiliate for Dallas-Fort Worth, the nation's fifth largest television market. The story aired the night before Thanksgiving. Here's the link.

November 2015 Newsletter
Mike's Message
Hello, Texas811 members!
November was another busy month for Texas811. It started with a fourth straight year of honors from the Dallas Morning News, continued with a favorable story on the Dallas-Fort Worth CBS affiliate, and ended with a tribute to veterans and a big damage investigation workshop in West Texas.
Here are some of the highlights of what we did and where we were, as compiled by our Image and Media groups.
I hope you had a very pleasant November, and that the holiday season brings happiness and joy to you and yours.

Sincerely,

Mike Losawyer
President, Texas811
Dallas Morning News Top 100 Places to Work for Fourth Year in a Row

For the fourth year in a row, we placed in the Dallas Morning News Top 100 places to work. Texas811 falls into the midsize business category and we placed 11th within our category.
Here's a link to our page write up and video.

Dallas Business Journal Interview

The daily and weekly editions of the Dallas Business Journal are the leading source for local business news, research and events in the DFW area. The parent firm also manages similar online publications in Houston, San Antonio and Austin. Texas811 president Mike Losawyer took part in a wide ranging interview with staff writer Bill Hethcock, which should be published in December in the DBJ - and may migrate to the other city's online editions.
Until then, here's Mike in the DBJ feature "People on the Move in Dallas".

 Hints from Heloise

Hints from Heloise is the popular nationally syndicated home "how to" tips column. The author of the column actually hails from Houston, so while she was familiar with Texas811, not all of her readers across the nation are familiar with 811 as a law. Here's how we looked in the column as it ran in The Washington Post.

 Damage Investigation Workshop

The Damage Investigation Workshop presented by the DPC of Texas - South Plains was a great success. Thanks to all our sponsors, participants, and especially first responders. Participants had the rare chance to see and hear what happens when a backhoe ruptures a pressurized gas pipeline. They were able to see the gas release (for safety purposes, compressed air was used) and witnessed how emergency responders cope with a potentially deadly accident.  "Despite best measures, the Railroad Commission of Texas recorded over 9,000 gas and petroleum line strikes in the state in 2014," said Melissa Brannan, a Damage Prevention Manager with Texas811. Melissa went on to say, "A visually exciting demonstration like this one is one of the best ways to educate people to the need to call before they dig and observe safety rules around buried utilities."

The scenario was designed to educate construction and utility workers on the proper use of the 811 "call before you dig" notification system, as well as learn how to safely excavate in the vicinity of buried lines and what to do if an accident happens.

That puts a wrap on this month's newsletter. If you've got an event coming up that we should give a shout out for, send an email.

Until next time, dig safe!

Sincerely,

Texas811
