Arizona Commission on the Arts Launches Two New Initiatives

Last week the Arts Commission announced two new initiatives to serve Arizona's arts sector:

AZ Creative Aging, generously supported by Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, is a comprehensive three-year initiative that will provide training to teaching artists, support the development of high-quality arts programs for older adults, and embed creative aging knowledge and best practices in the community. AZ ArtWorker, funded by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, is a new artist-to-artist professional development program that creates opportunities for Arizona artists to learn from national and international artists who are at the frontlines of contemporary art and community practice. 2016 Arizona Poetry Out Loud School Registration Open

Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national poetry recitation contest for high schools that provides free classroom materials for teachers and scholarship opportunities for students. POL is open to all Arizona students, grades 9-12. Registration will be open through October 30, 2015. Click here to learn more

Intern with the Arizona Commission on the Arts

Deadline: Friday, September 11, 2015

The Arizona Commission on the Arts Internship Program provides emerging leaders in the arts with the opportunity to investigate and participate in the operations of a state arts agency. Through a combination of learning experiences, work projects and group collaborations, interns develop essential skills and acquire valuable arts administration experience. Click here to learn more

University of Vermont College of Medicine Music and the Brain Study A new study, one of the largest to investigate the effects of playing an instrument on brain development, finds that music training not only helps children develop fine motor skills, but aids emotional and behavioral maturation as well. Kennedy Center's Partners in Education Program Accepting Applications

Deadline: October 30, 2015

The Kennedy Center's Partners in Education program is a national network of arts organizations and school districts that work together to provide professional learning in the arts for teachers. The program is based on the belief that teachers' professional learning is an essential component of any effort designed to increase the artistic literacy of young people.

2015-2016 Arizona Department of Education Student Artwork Competition

Deadlines: October 29 - November 6

The Arizona Department of Education has released guidelines for the 5th Annual Student Artwork Competition. Entries are due October 29 - November 6, 2015. Students participate by entering one (1) artwork which is designed around the theme: "I am proud to be an Arizonan."

Professional Development Grant Cycle B Deadline: October 1, 2015 Professional Development Grants provide funding support to Arizona artists, arts administrators and arts educators for participation in artistic development and skills building activities or opportunities that contribute to professional growth and career development. Target Field Trip Grants

Target stores award Field Trip Grants to K-12 schools nationwide. Each grant is valued up to $700. Applications are accepted between August 1 and 11:59 p.m. (CT) October 1, 2015.
