President's Report

Dear Members,

I hope you all enjoyed our beautiful summer and spent some time having fun in between doing great work! At the June AGM a new slate of volunteer board members were approved and I am excited to say that our first board meeting took place September 8th and we are all very excited about the year ahead and what we can create for our membership. It is also time for our chapter to revisit the three year strategic plan, and as such we are undertaking a Strategic Planning session as a board and committee members on Friday, October 2nd for a full day. This will be the time where we set the direction for the next 3 years for our chapter.

If you have ideas or input that you would like to inform our strategic plan then please send me or any of the board members an email and feed us your thoughts and ideas. The whole point of our existence is to serve our membership, so please let us know how best we can accomplish that goal!

I wish you well as you enter the busy season of giving this fall, and I hope to see you at National Philanthropy Day on November 17th! We sold out quickly last year, so use this as a cultivation opportunity with your donors and buy your table or tickets soon!

Diane Lloyd
President, AFP Vancouver Island

Member Spotlight

Jane McIntosh, Mercy Ships Canada

My name is Jane McIntosh, and I work in Donor Relations for Mercy Ships Canada. I first joined Mercy Ships as a volunteer crew member, serving on our ship the Africa Mercy for two years in West Africa.
Having seen firsthand the amazing transformational surgeries which are done on the ship, I wanted to get involved with the National office here in Victoria when I returned.

I love working with people and sharing my excitement for the work of Mercy Ships. When a donor realizes that their gift has completely changed the life of someone else, you sense the joy their gift has brought- not only to the patient in Africa but to the donor themselves herein Canada. A double win!
