Dear Friends of Parish Health Ministry,
The summer has been a busy one for Parish Health Ministry. We have been completing our newest Healthy Thoughts' bulletin inserts on topics related to mental illness, preparing for lead volunteer appreciation, planning a mental health first aide course and preparing for Refresh Your Soul 2016: Alzheimer's and Dementia - Caring and Communication that Works. You will find information on these topics in this issue of the newsletter.
As you may know, our focus this year has been on mental health. Along the way, I discovered a wonderful website for churches. It is called the Interfaith Network on Mental Illness. There are practical suggestions on how to be a more welcoming, inclusive, supportive and engaged congregation for mental health. Click here to view the checklist. Volunteer Reaches Out to
Those with Alzheimer's
The Friendly Visitor program at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Reading, Ohio has been a significant part of its health ministry for years. Through the ministry, volunteers visit parishioners who are homebound and those in long-term care facilities. Recently the program was blessed when its Network of Care Coordinator, Rose Lindeman, received a call from Karen, a parishioner from nearby Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. Read on...

Mental Health First Aid Training
Mental Health First Aid is an internationally known, evidenced-based program. Similar to First Aid classes, which provide training on the steps needed to identify and assist a person experiencing a physical crisis, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trains the attendees, regardless of their education background, in the steps needed to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

PHM Mourns the Loss of Anna Adkins
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Anna Adkins, a longtime leader of St. John's Episcopal Church Health Ministry in Lancaster, Ohio. Mary Oehler, a colleague at St. John's, said, "I will miss her quiet helping of others in our parish," and "all her help with our parish health ministry, her sense of humor, being a nursing colleague and a mentor for me with doing parish health ministry."
May God welcome Anna into her heavenly home!

Featured Community Resource: Lindner Center of Hope
If you are, or someone you love is, suffering with a mental illness or addiction, it is important that you know you are not alone. There is help and there is hope. Resources in the community are available for support and treatment. It starts with a simple phone call. The Lindner Center of HOPE is one such community resource. It is a nonprofit, mental health center in Mason, Ohio staffed by a diverse team, united in the philosophy that by working together, they can best offer hope for people living with mental illness. The treatment experience at Lindner Center of HOPE is unlike other psychiatric hospitals and treatment centers.

Updates/Opportunities at ERH
Volunteers Opportunities: Meals on Wheels Make a difference in a senior's life by becoming a Deupree Meals on Wheels volunteer. Drivers/Deliverers needed for mornings Tuesday through Friday, approximately 10:30-noon, to deliver to seniors in the Cincinnati area. Routes are currently available in the Fairfax, Hyde Park, Anderson/Cherry Grove, Mt. Washington, and Madisonville areas. Meals are picked up at Deupree House in Hyde Park. Must have your own vehicle, driver's license/insurance and must be willing to undergo a background check /finger printing.
