December 6, 2015
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
PRINCI would like to open with a heartfelt THANK YOU to our teachers, administrators, support staff, and Milton families who care deeply for our students and consistently show their support for them every day!

In preparing for the holiday season, it is a time to be joyful and thankful for all the things we have accomplished at Milton High School. It is also time to be mindful that this time of year can be stressful for our students. Most seniors are still waiting for their college acceptance letters while our ninth graders are preparing to take their first high school final exams. Other students are still balancing the demands of school, work and even an extracurricular activity.
My hope for our students is a healthy and successful end of the semester and for everyone a safe winter break free from stress.

TIPS/ADVICE FOR FINAL WEEKS OF 1st SEMESTER
As we push into the final few weeks of the first semester, we thought it would be helpful to provide some advice to help our students and maybe some of you navigate the next two weeks in preparation for the much needed winter break. While this isn't an exhaustive list, the hope is to share some ideas on how our students could best manage their stress as we head to the finish line of the first semester:
  • Study a little bit each day and don't stay up late; you need to get your rest and cramming never helps
  • Study in manageable chunks of time; take lots of breaks
  • Take breaks during study sessions to clear your mind
  • Join a study group
  • Make sure you know the help sessions and resources your teacher provides
  • Make a schedule for each class; set aside time to study for each class
  • Eliminate distractions like social media
  • Get enough sleep every night
  •  Stay hydrated
  •  Eat a good breakfast every morning
  •  Study in manageable chunks of time; take lots of breaks
  • Attend one of the holiday concerts this week
  • Come prepared with all of your needed supplies for the specific class and final
  • Be confident in YOUR ABILITIES! Believe that if you do your best you WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!
If your child is not sleeping well or has noticeable signs of stress, please do not hesitate to contact our teachers, counselors, or administrators who are available to help.

END OF COURSE (EOC) TESTING
TESTINGEOC
EOC testing will occur Friday, December 11, 2015 for all seniors who are taking an ECONOMICS class this semester.  Please keep in mind that the EOC will count for 20% of the students total grade.

Opting Out is not advised for this test administration. While students will not be forced to test, any student who does not take the exam will receive a zero that will count 20% of the final grade in the course per state requirements.

Students are encouraged to report to school prepared and  on time  the day of testing.

INFORMATION ABOUT GEORGIA MILESTONES
The Georgia Milestones Assessment System is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards in the core content areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  End of Course tests are part of the Georgia Milestones Assessment System.

Which courses have EOC tests?
Algebra I and Geometry
Ninth Grade Literature & Composition and American Literature & Composition
Biology and Physical Science
Economics and United States History

How do EOC test results impact student grades?
State law requires that the Georgia Milestones EOC tests serve as the final exam for courses with an EOC measure and that the test results contribute 20% of a student's final course grade.

What happens if a student is absent or does not take the EOC test during the appropriate testing window?
The student will receive an incomplete and the school will work with the student to provide a make-up test.  If the student does not take the make-up test in the timeframe allowed then the student will receive a zero for the EOC test score.  The EOC test counts as 20% of the student's final course grade.
