Do you dream of starting your very own farm animal sanctuary or rescue?

Registration is now OPEN for Heartland's Spring Conference: Starting and Sustaining a Farm Animal Sanctuary (and we are filling up fast!) This one-day conference on May 21st will be an extraordinary opportunity for anyone who is interested in starting their own farm animal sanctuary or rescue, or wanting to learn how to care for farm animals.  Business basics, fundraising, species-specific animal care and barn maintenance will all be covered. Don't miss out!

Two new programs starting this spring!

Side By Side: A weekly support group for
female Veterans & their children:
Side By Side is a weekly group for female Veterans and their children (aged 7-12) at our barn. This group will be a supportive, fun, and relaxing way for female Veterans and their children to connect at the farm while spending time with our friendly, rescued animals. Your kids will love it, and so will you! We have 80 beautiful acres of rolling farmland, prairie and forest for participants to explore. Read more...

Animal Hearts Kids' Program: Beginning Thursday, April 21st and running for eight weeks is Heartland Farm Sanctuary's first Animal Hearts Kids' Program!  We invite youth ages 8 through 12 whose lives have been impacted by trauma or loss to participate in a fun, supportive, engaging group at our barn.

Do you love what we do? Become a Heartland Ambassador!

Heartland is looking for Ambassadors to help friend- and fund-raise through activities at the barn, in the community, and through communications with area businesses and individuals. You can select among many activities that meet your interests and availability, including: leading or assisting with barn tours and field trips, tabling at community events, and working directly with businesses and individuals interested in supporting Heartland. Ambassadors will be trained, coached and scheduled by our team of Ambassador Volunteer Coordinators (our AVCs). And you get a cool Heartland Ambassador t-shirt!

Email [email protected] if you're interested in learning more.
Support in our community - Heartland thanks you!

Thank you to Boomer & Co!
Heartland wants to give a huge shout-out to the Butts and Endres families and the rest of the crew from Boomer's Bowl Your Balls Off! This annual bowling tournament fundraiser took place in February and featured raffles, live and silent auctions, a bake sale, and more! This year the event organizers chose Heartland as one of their featured rescues. Boomer's gang stopped by the barn to deliver their donation of more than $6,000 and meet the animals and people their generous donation will benefit! Thank you from all of us at HFS!

Glass Nickel makes a tasty donation!
A GIANT thank you to Glass Nickel Pizza Company for seriously upping Heartland's salad game! Glass Nickel donated boxes upon boxes of fresh, tasty produce after a recent fire at their west-side location. Fortunately everyone is OK and we hope they are back up and running soon. Thank you for making such a generous donation to our animals - it was a huge act of kindness in the face of their own loss.

Animal Spotlight: Amy
It's with very heavy hearts that we share the news of our sweet Amy's passing. Amy came to Heartland in October of 2012, already quite elderly and in pretty rough shape. She was terrified and frail, and we didn't think she would make it through that winter. But she did - she made it through that winter, and several winters after that. Amy amazed us all with her strength and perseverance, her quiet wisdom, and her ability to ask (and get) exactly what she wanted (usually banan as). Amy had very severe arthritis, and when her pain became unmanageable, we knew it was time to say goodbye. She was surrounded by love as she went - and her best friend, Gracie the goose, was by her side.
