HCC to offer family and youth programming
(Hagerstown, Md.)- The Continuing Education Division at Hagerstown Community College is offering several personal enrichment programs this fall for youth/teens and families.
                A series of Harry Potter classes will be offered on Saturdays in October, for students in grades four through six. Children ages 10 and up can enjoy "Paper Bead Jewelry" on October 3 and "Exploring Fantasy Fiction" on October 31.
                Several programs are offered for a variety of grades on weekdays when WCPS is closed. Minecraft classes will be held on November 2 and 3, "Kids for Peace" on October 16, "Musical Theater" on November 2, and "Create a Fictional World" on October 16.
                Family courses and trips include "Music and Movement," offered in September, October, and November; mother/daughter self-defense on September 19; and trips to Hershey Gardens on September 2, the Rockettes/New York Christmas trip on November 21, and a scenic Western Maryland train ride on October 16.
                Toddler and preschool courses include "Music and Movement" and "Jump, Play, and Learn," both offered in September, October, and December.

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater and Children's Theater announces auditions for
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
directed by Laura J. Martin,
produced by Mack's Theatricals, LLC.
Auditions will be held at The Playhouse (44 N. Potomac St., REAR, Hagerstown, MD) Sunday, Oct. 4 6-8:30 pm and Monday, Oct. 5 6-8:30 pm.
Please prepare to sing a portion of your favorite Christmas Carol or song A cappella (without music). No monologue is necessary. Those being considered for speaking roles will be asked to read from the script (provided at audition). The best preparation for this audition is to read the book, as the script is almost identical.
Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, Oct. 14. Rehearsals will be evenings and weekends. Every effort will be made to have children out of rehearsal by 8 pm on school nights (other than tech week). TECH WEEK (Mandatory Rehearsals) Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 1-3
Performance dates: December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 - 7:00 PM,
Sunday matinee December 13 at 1 PM.
Most adult roles are paid non-union. Wait staff opportunities available. Children will be compensated with two complimentary tickets for family members.
Children's roles may be double cast.

Opening Reception for Silent Auction on about 200 original pieces of artwork by local artists.
All proceeds from the event go to Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
The Silent Auction runs from Oct. 3 - Oct. 24 at 7:30pm Exactly.
Live On Stage, Inc. and the Hagerstown Community Concert Association bring Stringfever to Perform in Hagerstown, Maryland on October 7, 2015.
Stringfever are four world class musicians playing five and six-stringed electric violins, viola and cello in a truly original show at the Maryland Theatre, on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.  Single tickets for this performance will be sold at the door; $25 for adults, $3 for students. Hagerstown Community Concert Association will also be sponsoring a student outreach performance by Stringfeveras part of their ongoing commitment to support arts education in the community.

MSO Masterworks -- Francisco Fullana
The Maryland Symphony Orchestra will open its 2015-2016 Masterworks Series with an emerging classical superstar, violinist Francisco Fullana, as guest artist. Mr. Fullana will perform Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35. The orchestra will also perform Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43 by Jean Sibelius.
 
The concerts will take place on Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the historic Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown. Prelude with MSO Music Director Elizabeth Schulze and the guest artist will take place one hour (7:00 p.m.) before the Saturday Masterworks Concert.
 
Acclaimed for his performances in both Europe and the United States, Spanish violinist Fullana is enjoying a diverse international career of concerto and recital appearances, as well as a wide array of collaborations as a chamber musician.
 
Tickets may be purchased online at  www.marylandsymphony.org, by phone at 301-797-4000, or in person at the MSO Office at 30 W. Washington Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For the sixth consecutive season the MSO will be providing FREE Masterworks concert tickets to students in grades one through 12. This free student ticket initiative is generously underwritten by contributions from Susquehanna Bank and Music Director Elizabeth Schulze.

At its premier in Washington, DC, "A Fresh of Breath Air" received two Helen Hayes nominations for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Lead Actress. Dale Stein portrays five characters at Fifi's Cafe in this unique solo show the Washington Post called "An authentic vision of humanity...Stein is captivating". Dale has performed her original work with Garrison Keillor's radio show and at New York Theatre Workshop. "A Fresh of Breath Air" is a 70 minute comedy 'with olives'; a theatre experience The City Paper said is "Such exhilarating fun...you won't want to leave." Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra Concert

Shepherdstown WV's Friends of Music organization will launch its 2015-2016 performance season with a concert by the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, November 7. The concert will be held at Shepherdstown's Trinity Episcopal Church at 7:30 p.m. The Orchestra's Music Director, Jed Gaylin, will conduct. This will be the first time the Orchestra has performed at the Church. Dr. Gaylin says a main reason for choosing the Church was its superb acoustics. In keeping with this move to a new venue, the concert will be entitled "Brilliant Beginnings." Three works will be featured: * "Last Round," a piece for double string quartet and bass by Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov, one of the most sought after modern composers; * Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, with violinist Jorge Àvila; * Beethoven's Symphony No.1 in C Major, Op. 21. Admission will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for others will be $25 per person. Tickets and Friends' memberships can be purchased on the Friends' website at www.friendswv.org or by mail (FOM, PO Box 220, Shepherdstown, WV 25443) or, if space is available, at the church the evening of the performance. Visa and Master Card will be accepted. In addition to on-street parking in the vicinity of the church, free parking will be available at the Bavarian Inn parking lot, with free shuttle bus service to and from the concert.
