The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program will begin accepting preliminary applications for a limited time from income eligible households seeking rental assistance on Monday, Feb. 22. The wait list has been closed since October 2014.

The application process is entirely online and can be accessed 24 hours a day, taking less than 10 minutes to submit electronically.  Completing the preliminary application is the first step in the process and does not require any other documentation. The participant's name will be added to the waiting list to be called in order that the request was received as vouchers become available.
The application can be accessed through one of the following links:
Program staff will begin contacting families in March and continue as long as vouchers are available, said John E. Hall, the Director of Housing and Community Services. He added that there is no fee to apply for the department's housing programs.

Water Conservation Rebate Program

The City dedicated another $100,000 to the Water Conservation Program this year. Beginning February 1, water customers became eligible to receive a rebate for switching to high efficiency appliances and other water efficient devices: such as HE washing machines, dishwashers, toilets and smart irrigation controls, rain sensors and rain barrels. In the first 30 days of the program, nearly $30,000 in rebates have been awarded.

Hello.  My name is Wendy Hummell, and I am a Detective with the Wichita Police Department.  I am currently the coordinator for the Crime Stoppers Program in Wichita/Sedgwick County.  Most people don't know that Crime Stoppers  is a non-profit organization, solely based on donations from the community.  It is a division of the Wichita Crime Commission.   The program is based on a partnership between law enforcement, the community, and the media.

The program encourages citizens to call Crime Stoppers if they have information about a felony crime, and wish to remain anonymous.  This means that they have not directly contacted law enforcement.  Crime Stoppers always encourages cooperation with law enforcement, but in those cases where citizens do not want to call police, they are encouraged to provide the information they have anonymously through Crime Stoppers by one of the following ways:

Call (316) 267-2111 or 1-800-222-TIPS

Text TIP217 plus your tip to CRIMES (274637) or

Crime Stoppers is based on the premise  that someone other than the criminal has information that can help to solve a crime, and was created to combat major obstacles faced by law enforcement in generating that information.
  1. Fear of REPRISAL
  2. An attitude of APATHY
  3. Reluctance to get INVOLVED
Crime Stoppers resolves these problems by:
  1. Offering ANONYMITY
  2. Paying REWARDS
If information is provided through Crime Stoppers,  and that information leads to an arrest or helps the investigation in a significant way, then the tipster is eligible for a reward.  The amount of the reward is determined by the Crime Stoppers Board, a group of citizen volunteers.

If you would like more information on the program or you are interested in volunteering you may call the Wichita Crime Commission at 267-1235.
