Tri-Cities Area Employment Market Hits 34 Months of Growth
By Wendy Culverwell, Tri-City Herald

The Tri-City economy recorded its 34th consecutive month of growth in January as the civilian labor force hit a record high of almost 132,000.

The local unemployment rate of 8.4 percent, while high, was the lowest seen in the month of January since 2010, according to figures released Tuesday by the Washington Employment Security Department.

TRIDEC's Adrian said he's pleased to see growth spread across a variety of sectors and not concentrated on the Hanford cleanup.
"It's really pretty balanced growth. That demonstrates a healthy economy," he said.

Mid-Columbia Tri-Cities SCORE - Nation's Top Chapter for 2015

Mid-Columbia Tri-Cities SCORE today received their highest accolade in its' history when PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) confirmed with the National SCORE Office in Washington D.C., that the highest level of client engagement and success of mentoring was scored and evaluated out of the SCORE Chapter in Kennewick, WA.

"This is a tremendous acknowledgement for our Chapter, the hard work we did to become successful, and speaks highly of the volunteers that have served this Chapter over the past couple of years," says Vice Chair P. Simon Mahler.  "I don't think people will understand the magnitude of this accomplishment.  We finished ahead of the largest markets in our country by being the most innovative of the 307 Chapters that exist," Mahler notes.

"This is truly a labor of love.  We have worked very hard to grow this local Chapter so that people in the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas who have a passion and a dream, have a place they can depend on to help them grow and launch it" says Mahler.  For months now the Mid-Columbia Tri-Cities SCORE Chapter has ranked number one in the State of Washington for mentoring and overall performance, staying ahead of large market chapters that are triple in size of volunteers that include Seattle, Olympia/Tacoma, and Spokane.  "It will be interesting to see how many businesses actually started last year from our mentoring, and more importantly, how many jobs were created as a result of our mentoring to get those businesses opened in the first place, but that report comes out next month," says Jean Peterson, Administrative Executive for the local Chapter.  "We have some remarkable mentors who have put in a lot of time to help people become successful," says Peterson.

Since 1964, SCORE has helped more than ten million aspiring entrepreneurs.  Each year, SCORE provides small business mentoring and workshops to more than 375,000 new and growing small businesses.  More than 11,000 business experts volunteer as mentors in 307 chapters serving local communities with entrepreneur education to help grow one million small businesses annually. The Mid-Columbia Tri-Cities SCORE Chapter currently provides resources and services in 15 counties covering three states, (Idaho, Oregon, & Washington), making it the largest Chapter in the country in terms of miles served.

For more information about starting, operating, or growing an existing small business, call to schedule an appointment with a Mid-Columbia Tri-Cities SCORE mentor at 509-735-1000 509-735-1000 Ext 235 or visit Tri-Cities SCORE at www.midcolumbiatricities.score.org.
