NINE DAY SHATAH CHANDI HAVAN
Thursday, June 9 - Friday, June 17, 2016
8:00 AM - 12:30 PM AND 4:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Poornahuti, Saturday, June 18, 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon
This yagna's purpose is to rid America of divisive tendencies and bring peace and harmony to the universe. The 13 chapters of Durga Saptasati, from the Markendaya Purana, will be chanted 12 times each day by two priests.
This fruit of this yagna is said to be improvements in personal relationships, such as husband and wife, parents and children, teacher and student, employer and employee, for business partners, etc.
Like Ganapati Yagna, this yagna removes obstacles. Ganapati Yagna usually brings gradual and gentle changes. Chandi havan often brings dramatic and sudden changes.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH CHANDI HAVAN

Once I sponsored Chandi havan. The havan was performed in Pittsburgh. I was in Hawaii, more than 4000 miles away. During the havan, my business partner unexpectedly called me and started angrily shouting at me. He had never spoken a harsh word to me before! I was quite surprised. Later, I remembered I had sponsored the Chandi Havan on that day. It became sort of a joke later that whenever I sponsored Chandi havan, my partner got angry and would call me with some complaint. I think it was Ma Durga's way of trying to separate me from him. (He had some bad qualities). This is one of many reasons I believe one does not have to be present at the havan to gain benefits from a yagna. It also reminded me that often what appears as a negative is a gift from God.

Another time, I had Chandi havan performed, and instead of my partner getting angry, it was I who got very angry. Usually calm and composed, in anger I wrote a letter of resignation to a client who had offended me. Later, through negotiations, I retained the account, getting almost as much money for half the work.
For a number of years my teacher Panduranga and I would do a nine day Chandi havan together during Devi Navaratri. One time, I saw "my life pass before my eyes". It is said this can happen at the time of death. Many long forgotten memories came back to me. I think in some sense I died and was born again after this yagna. -Craig Sastry
WORLD PEACE YAGNAS

Temple Homa Kunda where two priests will conduct 9 day Chandi Yagna June 9-18
|
|
One of the stated purposes of the Sai and Venkateswara Temples is to perform YAGNAS, not just for the local community, but for the benefit of the whole universe. This fulfills the Vedic dictum "The World is my family." The Vedic Yagnas are like a radio tower, which broadcast messages of peace and unity through the ether to far off distances. Already, the Temple has sponsored yagnas to distant places, such as Russia, where the Varuna yagna ended a drought there the same day the yagna started.

ATTENDANCE
Although it is not necessary to attend, attendance is strongly encouraged. Most people cannot attend during work hours, but in addition to the morning havans, havans will be conducted 4:00 pm - 8:30 pm every evening, and also on two Saturdays and one Sunday. Sitting through one repetition of Chandi is life transforming; imagine the effect of 100 repetitions!
Chandi is a very powerful havan. It is not a toy or something to be taken casually. One should come to the havan with a serious mind, in clean clothes, after bathing, and only after abstaining from sex, alcohol, and non - vegetarian food for at least twenty four hours before and after. Do not bring leather items like belts or purses into the homa kunda. Eat lightly or not at all before the havan (but not to point of discomfort). For those who need a bath, there are showers in the Sai Temple restrooms.
Ma Durga has blessed our Temple by authorizing this wonderful yagna. Please come and enjoy.
